Thank's to the moderators, and Thank you Don for all the great help. As I understand ,thursday is the day Don will be put to rest @ sea.
I know while at work, at a local marina up north here,I'll look at the lake and offer my best wishes for you. Godspeed my friend.

Wow, just wow!
As the tears well up in my reddened eyeballs, I now truly know that this community of Iboaters is really one of the closest knit families I have ever had the Honor and Privilege to be a part of...
I have felt first hand the nature of the amazing and caring folks who belong to this site.
To know that you have taken upon yourselves the task of carrying out the final rites to Honor Don's passing speaks volumes to size of this wonderful community's heart.
Thank you, all who have taken part, for your fellowship.
I will consider tomorrow as a day of respectful remembrance to Honor Don Sindledecker.
Godspeed, sir.

Do we know when tomorrow (Pacific time) his ashes will be scattered. It would be a great sign of respect if we could all stop what we were doing at a pre set time, even for just a minute, to honor the Oracle.

Carp, how did I miss that ^^^. THANKS for posting it FD!

Well, I had a life changing event that made me remember it being mentioned in the first thread....

For the longest time I loved dogs but despised cats, but as luck have it, we had a litter dropped off in our shed by a local feral cat last spring, and she abandoned the litter. We took them in for a month, kept the 2 we liked and finally got the rest into the ASPCA, along with a nice donation.

Maybe in some strange way, Don turned me into a cat lover :scared: :cat:

It would be a great sign of respect to Don if his avitar be placed on the iboats header in memorial to his service. I do remember that a simple thank you was enough for him in my many interactions with his knowledge.

Wow, I'm speachless. It was just so sudden . Just glad the detectives called his frequently used numbers and it happened to be one of the moderators, who help put his funeral together since there wasn't any immediate family willing to do the right thing. Rest in Peace Don .. And thanks for your words of wisdom and PDF files over years.

Sincerely

We are shooting for around 1:00 PM Pacific. HOWEVER, weather is a huge deal so we could have a total wave off. We will do our best to give you a warning, but it we won't know exactly until very close to the actual time.

Just reached for the kleenex. Wonderful gesture to a truly great man. There will be a minutes silence tomorrow in his memory wherever I am at that time.
This truly is an amazing place.

I really enjoyed reading Don's post from time to time . All of the thoughtful comments and the way the Iboats team stepped up for Don truly makes me feel I have joined the greatest forum on the web . May God bless Don and his family . And bless our family called Iboats ..
I will be driving home tomorrow down a beautiful stretch of N.Fla coastline at the time Don will be returned to the sea . I will stop and offer my respects and honor our Oracle of the sea ...

What a good group of people there are here at iboats.
As a fellow boater, if I saw you were having trouble out on the water, I would offer to lend a hand. Thanks to all who have helped Don on his journey.

Sailors Prayer by Charles D. Williams

Sailors pray,
For fair winds and a following sea
The smell of salt in the air,
The feel of their skin as it’s touched by the spray
An albatross soaring above,
Dolphins in the ship’s wake at play
To witness a work of art that only God can create,
The sunset at the end of day
At night a million stars in the sky,
Safe anchorage in an islands lee
When the time comes to die as for all it must,
To awake in Sailors Heaven where nothing ever rusts
And always there would be,
Fair winds and a following sea

Farewell Don!

Beautiful work by the moderators of this forum to take action on behalf of Don’s great and close iBoats family. There can be no better way to be put at final rest.

Our paths never crossed over these years I've been lurking here and the reason is quite simple; almost all questions had already been asked and answered. It doesn’t take many searches before noticing the quality of Don’s answers. For this reason one would hope the forum archives will stay for a very long time to come, for coming iBoats members to read.

Citing JFK: “We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it we are going back from whence we came.” R.I.P. Don S.

OK gang 'o iboats followers and Don lovers . . . It's a go.

Member HT32BSX115, who is a pilot, is flying to Hoquiam Airport in Washington State as I type to retrieve Don's cremains. He is then flying out over the Pacific and will make the drop at approximately 12:00 PST. RIP Don!!!!

Sorry for the late notice, but now you can understand why weather was such a big deal. We literally needed a window at this time of year and we got it. Thanks, Don :)

Sorry for any appearance of secrecy. We didn't want any false starts and many things were touch and go through this whole process. Thanks all for understanding.

One more (been thinkin' about Don the last couple hours):

If you've never heard 'em, Taps has lyrics. This set was written by the original composer of the music itself:

Fading light dims the sight

And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies
All is well, safely rest;
God is nigh.

Then goodnight, peaceful night;
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright.
God is near, do not fear,

Friend, goodnight.

Good night Don … and, we thank you.

Re: Don S Final arrangements

Some Time

Some time at eve, when the tide is low,
I shall slip my moorings and sail away
With no response to a friendly hail,
In the silent hush of the twilight pale,
When the night stoops down to embrace the day
And the voices call in the water's flow —

Some time at eve, when the tide is low,
I shall slip my moorings and sail away
Through purple shadows that darkly trail
O'er the ebbing tide of the unknown sea,
And a ripple of waters to tell the tale
Of a lonely voyager, sailing away
To mystic isles, where at anchor lay
The craft of those who have sailed before,
O'er the unknown sea to the unknown shore.

A few who have watched me sail away
Will miss my craft from the busy bay;
Some friendly barks that were anchored near,
Some loving souls that my heart held dear,
In silent sorrow will drop a tear:
But I shall have peacefully furled my sail
In moorings sheltered from storm and gale
And greeting the friends who have sailed before
O'er the unknown sea to the unknown shore.
