I stopped eating chinacrap over 50 years go and would never go back.

Back in the early 1970's several local restaurants were raided and closed down because they were selling chicken that wasn't chicken.

A few years ago I answered an ad for a used tinny. The owner was also the owner of a restaurant. In his back yard (surrounded by an 8' privacy fence) were 50 or 60 cages, and they didn't contain chickens. (I dunno, maybe he was a pet lover.)

Last year, the police suspected a car hit a deer and they followed the blood trail to a restaurant, where they were promptly butchering the road kill and putting it in the freezer.

Meow.

Road Kill is a major part of a lot of families meat intake around here, we have a law, that road kill is legal to pick up, you just call them and they will issue you a verbal permit, or go online and they will issue a permit that you can print. It is perfectly good meat if you know it was just hit and a lot of people do pick it up..

GA , with everything shut down as far as restaurants and such there is no reason to restock . Waste is gunna happen ..
‘But like you said , would be good to fill the food banks or give to other countries in need . But that would be just the non-perishables right ? How can food banks keep stuff from going bad ? I don’t know much about this stuff so idk ...

When I said eggs were being destroyed, it was about hatchery eggs. No fertilized eggs, no chicken for every pot. At least 4 major meat producers have shut down slaughter houses. I haven't heard if we're talking about bacon.

Produce can't be grown and harvested overnight, unlike meat which can be left on the hoof until this settles down and the meat packers can butcher livestock and poultry again. A lot of the lost produce is for stores and migrant pickers aren't around to harvest crops. I'm not sure how dairy farmer and workers milk the cows from a labor standpoint.

Food prices are going to skyrocket.

Absolutely. Same around here. We are all deer hunters in the family so it would not be a problem for us.

However, it IS illegal to sell the meat, and it IS illegal to take the carcass into a restaurant. I know the old adage "tastes like chicken", but I don't think you could make venison follow that rule.

Food supply is becoming a major issue. With so many food service customers, restaurants, hotels, cruise lines, airlines and more, farmers are not able to ship and food is rotting on the vine and being plowed under. Chicken suppliers are destroying eggs, dairy farmers are pouring milk on the ground and slaughter houses are closed. All this when food banks are running out. There is no plan, there is no management! Just PR stunts!

I heard the price of wholesale eggs has tripled. Not heard anything about them getting destroyed.

personally i'm eating more than usual, my 'dealers' lady are getting busy with it.

.

If only it were that simple. The cost of head of beef to the rancher is determined by what was spent to raise it to the ideal weight where it would be fed to its ideal weight for sending to the packer. Keep it too long the food/weight conversion factor goes down. If you are only on pasture there are new cattle in the pipe line and you could run out of space and have to start buying supplemental feed. Meat quality also goes down with age so you receive less money per pound. A car dealer would not make the same money on car he has had in is showroom for a year as that car costs him more due to what he is paying the bank in floor plan interest. Have you ever cooked a three or four year old chicken that has quit laying. They are worth very little for their meat. The same reason 600 pound hogs don't go to the market and fetch the same price as a 160 pound one will. If meat is not moved close to where the chart shows all the variables crossing profits got down just like any other business.

Some Greek, but not a Greek word. It's more a math gag ...

Imaginary numbers, a cubed figure and the last symbol is 3.1416 (ish).

It's not greek either.
I ate some pie

Finally!

For those who don't get it...

-1 2[SUP]3[/SUP]π

Square root of minus 1 is an imaginary number, the symbol is ' I '.
2 raised to the power 3 is 8. (2 x 2 x 2)
is the math symbol for summation, 'sum' for short.
π is the Greek letter pi. Which is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. (roughly 3.14159)

The math sum is also a greek sigma. Sigma Pi is an old Ivy League fraternity. My first translation was "I ate sigma pie", but that didn't make sense so I thought there was a hidden meaning.
