Re: Do you keep "cash" in your home?

I call it "Emergency Money" and yes I do have some cash in the house.

I thought everyone did ?

I dont carry more than 20 bucks in my wallet ( enough to buy some gas to get me home if im low and far from work ).

Sure the credit/bank cards are used mainly for All things.

Sometimes for me I need cash ( like this chicken place down the street from work that only accepts Cash ).

Basically I use the cards for most things .. but use cash for some. I have a stash just in case I see something pop up that only uses Cash.

I also have a fireproof Place that has a secondary fire resistant container for all of my cash and other things that I value.

Yes I like the Cash on hand.

A better thread would be "Do You Pay Cash for Everything that You Can" .. now that would be a cool thread :D.

Re: Do you keep "cash" in your home?

i keep enoght cash for the daily needs like kids dinner money and the wifes sticky fingers especially as the schools seem to constantly be sending home things for the kids to sell and the parents to buy. i use to keep $100 in $20 bills in the fuse panel of the car just in case (lots of places wont take a large bill) then i forgot and traded in the truck. The worst part was that i was desperate for cash one day at work (donnation) so i had to phone the wife to get her to run out to get cash and bring it to me and at no point did i remember there was cash in the car  So realy it was pointless having cash that you only remember having months after lossing it.

I have been giving this allot of thought ........ I was going to staple $5 and $10 bills to various trees (starting at 25 yards and culminating at 600 yards) but the Fish and Wildlife regulations came to mind. It is illegal to shoot over a bait pile!

Bob...you've almost got this nailed. The $1 to $5 bills are all further out at 50-100 yards. Then the $20-$50 bill are in the 25-50 yard range...then of course the c-notes go in the 10-25 yard range.;)
This worked great last time

Are you after wood rats or money moths?

refuse to bank for ethical reasons,............ also boycotting credit, did away with lending/borrowing after i paid off my house.

The reasons that a bank is unethical would be an interesting discussion in itself...

I agree about boycotting credit.....a credit card should be used as a payment tool only, and paid in full every 30 days. That way there is no "credit" involved, and no interest to pay.

When establishments start giving a cash discount, then I'll use cash all the time. As it stands now, the credit card discount (cash back) is just too much of an economic incentive.

Unless you live hand to mouth, not sure what options you have except a mattress.

Just wait until the Sharia law discussion dealing with banks and insurance comes up.

I dislike banks as much as the next guy but where do you keep all of your cash? I keep cash liquid in the event of some financial hardship for houshold expenses...where other than a bank or bank like entity do you stash large amounts of cash safetly?

I keep loaded guns in every room, and my guess is there is some cash in each room too. No kids and no young guest's either so if anyone ever walks into my place unannounced, they would not be healthy or walking out. I don't usually have more than 4 figures laying around, really no need in today's cash free life style.

Money is some of the most filthy stuff we humans love to touch, but if you think about it, it really is disgusting!

Re: Do you keep "cash" in your home?

I have about $1000 in the house just in case.

I have $100 in my wallet and another $300 in my pants pocket right now. I use a rewards debit card at least 15 times a month because it pays 2% interest. Credit card at the pump and online, bill paid in full at the end of the month. A few checks and auto debits for household bills the rest cash.

When paying in cash I never use dollar bills. I save them up and every so often turn them into 20's, 50's and 100's.
That is my emergency stash, you'd be surprised how quick it adds up.

Re: Do you keep "cash" in your home?

I generally pay with my debit card and try to keep a little cash on me. I like to tip at restaurants with cash, it's a little more personal that way. I try to keep around 30 bucks on me for small purchases and the tips.
For everything else, I pay online or with my bank's billpay, we only have a couple of bills that we use a check for each month.
Credit cards are for online purchases and emergencies around here.

So you are certain where the guns are, but a bit fuzzy where the money is?
That pretty much sums that up....:facepalm:

Gotta know where the guns are in case of a fire. First thing you grab, then the head mounts. O'yeah, family pix if you have time.....:)
