I decline to disclose, but I use my debit cards the majority of the time, in the last three years, they have rebated me over 4000 dollars, so it has worked out quite well.

Funny, we were just talking about this at work. One of the guys I work with has $2700 (he thinks) in a safe in his basement. He can't remember the combination! Said he's not going to worry about it until he really needs the money. I do just about everything with the cards. It's just easier. Keep a small amount of cash in the safe.

Debit cards, pre-authorised payments and wise use of credit card are the norm here. Very little cash around. For business travel then I usually take about $1,000 worth of whatever local currency and $1,000 in either US or Canadian $ (or combo) with me and put everything else on credit card. Cash talks when traveling.

I used to write checks for everything, I also used to take my paycheck to the bank every week. Now I may write 2 or 3 checks a year, debit card, credit card, bank bill pay does the rest, auto deposit for the paycheck. Bunches o ammo, more on the way, and have Mossberg (JIC), S&W, Savage and Colt to protect family and home.

No cash..... just bullets :) Don't need cash.....I like paper trails when I pay for things.

...Bob, make 2013 the year you buy a gun for those bullets;).....unless you're Roger Clemens, throwing them only makes the intruder mad.

For myself...I keep some cash, nothing serious. I use a debit card for most transactions and try to keep Credit/Visa stuff for very, very few purchases.

That said, I've got a friend who keeps/hides over $10k in his rickety old wooden garage just in case of any number of disasters (tsunami, global takeover, and a few other dubious conspiracies he dreams up) that would render the financial system void for a while......

I'm still a big believer in cash tho'....just don't use it for a lot of stuff vs. the debit card.

My two bits.

I mean what you would consider a sizable amount? I do, mostly because its a long trip to town if I need some and I like paying my bills / purchaces with cash money, no one has ever refused to take it compared to a check. :D
You have no idea if there are people on here or not that know where you live. From your balloon and Camaro experiences alone, I can just imagine there are a couple.

Nope, I rarely even have $20 in cash unless I'm going somewhere specifically that requires it.

I can't remeber the last time I paid for anything over a couple of dollars using cash. I've not written a check in years. Autopay and rewards credit cards paid in full at the end of the month.

+1 on this. My rewards are paying for my honeymoon to New Zealand. I'm going to be smiling even bigger knowing I didn't have to pay a dime for the business class tix.

My fiance collects quarters....she actually traded them in and paid for my wedding ring that way. So she did the reverse of those "cash for gold" places lol.

She also paid for some hotels with her quarters as well. Me personally I am on a strict Saphire Preferred + United MileagePlus diet

95% of the time I use rewards cards and pay the balance off at the end of the month. My Chase card currently rebates 5% back on gasoline. My Costco business card does 4% gas, 3% restaurants, 2% travel and 1% everything else. The only cash I spend is from som rent money I receive. Some people like to pay cash to me.

Re: Do you keep "cash" in your home?

I like to keep $500.00 bux on hand, just in case I have to make bail. Otherwise, I only use credit cards that I pay off monthly, and they make points that I use to buy boating and hunting stuff.

Once in the 70's I saved $7,000 in cash that was to be used on a down payment for a house. I went to buy the house, and the bank thought I was a drug dealer or something to have that much cash. I ended up waiting two weeks with the money setting in the bank before I could buy the house.

My neighbor, who is my oldest son's best friends' dad keeps ten thousand dollars at the house. At any given time he will have at least a grand in his pocket and then I have to try to explain to my son that carrying that much cash isn't responsible and not actually impressive as the kids would think. The only check I write is my monthly parking lease because the ramp is owned by the government. They will not accept any other form of payment lest a government workers' job become obselete.

refuse to bank for ethical reasons, check cashed at walmart, carry it on me, spend all on boat stuff and groceries, also boycotting credit, did away with lending/borrowing after i paid off my house. now if i could just work for barter, i could cut out sam too
