Yeah, This is not where I wanted this thread to go. If the guy would have came up to me and asked I would have let him have the entire area to himself. Courtesy would have gotten him a nice view of the grass line instead of the back of my pontoon. That was the point I was trying to make. Plus I was asking where did it go. :p

Re: Courtesy Fishing, Where did it go?

Wow this thread went from one extream to the other, for me I learned along time ago to show respect on the water for other boaters. If i am motoring along and see someone fishing I throttle back and pass them then after a good distance get back on plane and carry on....

For me fishing is not a race, but a relaxing time.

I usally fish on a small public lake where there is a lot of guys out there bank fishing for bream- most are curtious and i try to do the same for them. At one point last spring I had found a nice little area where i could see a good size bass- i was trying everything i could to get that big girl.....lol.. So this guy walks up on the bank with his fly pole and ask if i have had any luck. I said i have and was trying to get this one right here. He asked if i mined if he gave it a try with his fly rod- sure ( i had been working it for about 30 min with no luck what so ever) first cast and she takes the bait- i was astonished to say the least. I applauded him and asked if one day he could give me some fly lessons. A few min of bs back and forth he says pull up here on the bank and get this fish- i dont like the tase of bass any way. So i did and opened my live well and past him 6 or 8 crappie that i had caught on small jigs eairler in the day.

Now to this day i see him down there time to time and we will chat as i drift by. He seems to be a great guy- and i dont even know his name.

Some people don't get it, and don't want to. Some like to fish streams that are nothing more than a trickle. Some like to use cut bait, some like to troll. Some like to buy expensive boats
and run wot chasing a green perch they call a bass, and ware pretty shirts, my brother likes carp - God bless them all. It is best
to inform them of proper etiquette, and hope they get it.

The OP should have taken this issue up with the tournament director. Felt them out. If they had the same attitude I would have called the DNR, and made a complaint. Tournaments where I'm from need a permit from the DNR. So they know what group is there at certain times.

There is ZERO excuse for tournament anglers to act like this. It will directly impact their ability to come back and hold another tournament. Especially near me, where all lakes are 1,000 acres or less, and some of them have at least two tournaments a week. Home owners are already RIGHTFULLY frustrated as is.

I used to be a big supporter of tournaments, now being on the lake, I've changed my position.

One other point. I always remember my dad complaining about jet ski's and skiers and what not. And back in the day he was right. Now, If you run into an inconsiderate jerk on the lake you can COUNT on that it's a fisherman.
