My Boat.jpg

Not sure if I posted this correctly but here is my boat, and in the process of starting a restore. Planning on some more minor stuff this season, but just want to fish and cruise the bay, then if all goes well I'll really dig in. I love the look of the boat. 1964 Steury with 35HP Viking

OK. So my first post here will be the project that is now in it's last phases before my family gets to use it on Lake Michigan.

This is a1983 Sea Ray Seville 170 - 2.5L - 120 Merc.

I had this boat when I was younger...and we loved it. It now has new life. The first pic is what it used to look like, out of the factory...nice brown (what designer thought that was a good choice?)

and here is what it looks like now...or in it's rebirth process....

I have an 88 Bayliner Trophy, still solid as new! Love the boat, jumps up on plane with ease. Haven't really thought about doing a full out post on it because I think of it as "just our fishing boat" BTW, there are still plenty solid Bayliners out there. I see about as many in the gulf coast area as I do about any other single name. Maybe it's the salt? Great work DasCobra, your boat looks great! I really love the purple accents and the heavy metal flakes look fantastic. The Cobras came from the factory with the heavy flakes didn't they?

I have a 1986 SC170 Seanymph my father owned boat over twenty years ago. we sold it and they just wanted the motor and for over twenty years it never went in the water. it was less than a mile from my house all those years. every time I drove by I told myself I should buy it back. well last year I did. almost 1 year to the date it is almost done.sea nymph boat 2013.jpg

Re: Classic boat pic gallery (20yr and older)

A lot of nice boats in this thread! I am new to the site and figured I would post some pics of my old Sea Ray.

The boat is a 1979 SRV 240 Weekender. I got the boat from my father in-law 3 years ago after he passed away. He only put around 95 hours on it, so it has very little time on the motor but unfortunatly it sat in dry storage untouched for around 17 years. The years wouldn't have been so bad but after the boat cover gave out my father in-law started buying a plastic weave blue tarp once a year to cover it during the wet season and the tarp would be destroyed by late summer so it would be exposed to the elements for the rest of the year.

I have been slowly restoring the boat over the last year and have been making pretty decent progress so far this year. My goal is to have it finished by next Spring which shouldn't be a problem seeing as the only thing really holding me back from finishing the boat is cash LOL.

Here's where the boat started.

As of right now the entire outer interior is torn out of the boat to be refinished, most of it is done but I don't want to reinstalled anything until I can get the new carpet installed. Here's what I have done so far.

I am trying to keep the boat as factory looking as I can but it is next to impossible seeing as most of the "1970ies" color and styles are history LOL. Looked for over 6 months just trying to find a burnt orange carpet with no luck and I had to custom re-dye all the vinyl in the boat . I will post more pictures when it is done.

Thank you for checking out my boat,
Robert

Confused.... it is a bayliner....

Your boat looks really nice, and surely you get plenty of complements. Because there are SOME people who think that a Bayliner is a throw away boat after a decade or so, it would be a big surprise for them to see one of your age so nice. The assumption is that you have heard or read the negative comments concerning Bayliners. That being said, I think the idea is that you would take great joy in (after all the complements have been handed out and they ask what kind of boat it is) throwing out the Zinger that "It's a Bayliner" with a big grin on your face. I don't get that element of surprise with my boat, because it has "Bayliner" stuck to the side as well as "Trophy" (which is linked to the Bayliner brand) and most old timers recognize that even if they missed the "Bayliner" decal that is stuck lower on the hull. I do however still get to grin when they first see it and say "nice boat" and then see the look when they realize it's an older Bayliner. The biggest joy comes when they ask what all I have had to do to it and I say "mostly just keep it clean". I don't count the motor repairs, because it's not synonymous to Bayliner. Anyway, I think that is what was meant by that statement.

For the amount of crappy 2-3 yr old "high-end" boats I've seen, I don't put much merit in the "it's a Bayliner" comments. Boats are what you put into them. If you take care of any boat it provides enjoyment which makes it a nice boat. If you neglect it, it turns into a crappy boat no matter what brand it is.

There's a lot of really old Chevy's on the road too in very good shape and a lot of not-so-old Mercedes that are in crappy condition. Same thing.

Bayliner gets such a bad rap ... with that one being so nice, even the nay-sayers probably compliment it before they realize they should be bad mouthin' it.

Therefore ... it's probably kinda' fun to tell people what brand it is. We'll call it "dramatic irony." :)

Just bought it, 1989 230 Sea Ray cuddy. All original, original owner. Hope it looks as good as some of the boats on this site when we're finished it.

So far so good on my fuel gauge working properly. I'm guessing that there are no baffles in the tank, because the gauge is very "active" while in motion but only when throttling up and down. It will settle and stay steady while docked or once on plane at a steady speed. I did notice where an extra ground was added to the sender at some point, that goes directly to the rear battery. Sometimes I wish I had twins just for limp in piece of mind.
Ours stays in Gulf Shores and I too only get the chance to clean and keep up the maint. and small projects on the weekends. We'll be down for the day on the 6th to do yard work and I plan to tighten the steering rack and lube the cable.
