Re: CL Donor Boats for our Tinnies

well Mako guy is talking to me again... he replied that the boat is still for sale.... he said he has two guys saying they want it but hasn't seen any money...... I say I have cash in hand and would have already picked it up if I could figure out how... he replies "what works for you?" and says I can give him a deposit and pay the rest whenever I can... LOL

I reply again with I have ALL of the money now but how can I give a deposit or full payment to an email address? This has been a week of emails to not even come close to what could be done with a 5 minute phone call.... This guy is WACKY

Tell him you either get a phone number or you will consider it a hoax or worse a scam.

Smoke - Just tell him when you are going to show up, pay and pick it up. See what he says to that.

Does he have titles / registrations?

There are a lot of strange / quirky sellers on C/L.

Kinda sounds like the average day dealing with the average clist buyer/seller.

Sometimes I just can't deal with these guys ya know:facepalm:

Dude,
That Mako deal is so messed up........

I was bored & unable to sleep last night so emailed that donkey about his Mako.

This am he replied:
Same story you got:
I'm out of town working, but yes, you can go see it, here's my address......
I asked if he'd be home this weekend to handle the paperwork.

His reply:
No, I'll leave the title in the garage, just leave the cash where you find it, and take the boat w/ you
.

Ok.... Let me get right on that....

If you're interested, ask someone @iboats to swing by & see if it's got a HIN & the serials #'s off the motors. Maybe someone's got a friend at the DMV that'll confirm it's Jeff's or at least not stolen.

Re: CL Donor Boats for our Tinnies

Got another email:
Boat pulls great.. Very safe neighborhood, live on a lake right next to the county sheriff.

Jeff

Might be why so willing to leave the title & expect the cash to be left in the garage while he's not there, maybe

Must be an up-scale community with a lake house lock-up.

This is one of the stranger CL adventures! Maybe he's raising bail.

Smoke, have one of the Grand Rapids guys to verify it's there.

Then, drive up, hook up the boat, leave a hundred bux with a note that says...

"I went ahead and negotiated with out ya too. Thanks!!!"

And then drive away.

Jas may be on to something:

Who knows, just because it sounds to be good to be true, doesn't mean it is too good to be true. However, Occum's Razor is probably accurate...........

If you really are interested, figure out which house is the Sheriff's &/or call the county sheriff. If Jeff is on the up & up, and 'just' out of town, there should be no conflict contacting the sheriff....

If he & Jeff are good, friendly neighbors, the sheriff might even act as an intermediary. But I doubt they'd want to be involved in a $1600+/- cash deal............

Re: CL Donor Boats for our Tinnies

How is Jeff going to leave the title in the garage if he's out of town?

Is that another boat in front of the Mako in JB's pic? Hard to tell.

And how many Sheriff's Deputies will be pulling up with guns drawn during the attempted Grand Theft - Boat and Breaking and Entering accessing the garage to snag the title and the negotiated 100 bucks? :)

If I lived in the area, I'd do a drive-by just to case the joint. :watermelon:
