Not sure what to think, could go out there to find the lake access road's closed. From the article, it sounds like they are going to deny access to the parks (lake) to preserve their facilities, infrastructure.

It's my understanding that the access roads will be closed if this thing happens, including the road to Temple Bar..:blue:

This really ticks me off... Finally get the boat running and fishfinder on and new rod and reel, and now nobody will be able to enjoy our beautiful lake mead... I also called that number and heard the same recording... So just in case, I drove out to willow beach for one last fishing session right after work this morning. I got skunked but I got to fish for possibly the last time until who knows when.. Very sad day

A Co worker of mine called me yesterday and said "I'm at lake Mead right now" I said "yeah right" he the went on to tell me that on his way down to sandy beach (I think) at boulder, he came across 3 seperate road blocks. He said he just drove around them and made it down to the beach.. Lol, I told him to let me know what the rangers say if he gets caught, but it looks like nothing happened.

What are they doing about locals at Temple Bar and Lake Mead RV Village? These people live there and they are inside. Are they locked in?

Even more interesting. Weeklong Houseboat rentals. If they are out at Sandy Point and refuse to leave? Hmmmm.

and what about for those of us that have paid for the park year round passes? my wife is telling me they said on the news that we are SOL, they should either discount our passes for next year, or extend our passes for the same ammount of time that this shutdown takes.

Point to the sticker on the boat and car and let the officer know, "Were all good officer, paid up for a full year!!!"

Now, why don't you go bug someone who doesn't have a Lake sticker... :bounce: :bolt:

Those living there can stay. They would be the ones working there and having housing provided being employees of a NPS concessionaire. Those living in houseboats, or staying in the trailer villages will need to leave by Friday, providing a 'mini funding' isn't passed in the interim. The road blocks can be navigated around, and you are allowed to retrieve personal property from inside the park. You just can't boat in the lake, stay for an extended period of time or spend the night. I'm probably headed up to pick up our rhino this weekend, so stay tuned..film at 11 :D

I would think that the HB'rs must have been pre-warned and either weren't allowed to leave the marina and given a refund or were rounded up and brought in if they were permitted to go out. :blue:

I was hoping you would chime in. Thanks. What a deal. And that's all I have to say about that.

They should just leave the gates open..We used to use the lake before there were gates and it was no big deal...

Yes, and it was free to use the lake back then...

Doesn't make sense, pay to use it, and then they lock you out

Ok! lets take this slow, and reflect on the big picture here.

Lake mead is awesome and then suddenly lake las vegas begins to form,at the same time theres a drought and lake las vegas gets full pool as vegas wash has to move marina,At the same moment almost, your house worth 120,000 goes to 250,000 so everyone takes loans out and goes crazy as the twin towers gets hit by planes, suddenly houses are worth nothing and all jobs are lost almost.Things get a little better over the years and fee stations are installed and lake looks a little cleaner, now its closed!! Theres a few things here between the waves that happened that were more strange like all the launch ramps were redone as the water level dropped before it dropped waiting eagerly.Maybe not in this order perfectly but i tried to show my friends what is going on here somehow.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

I could see the economy taking a dive and tanking, being a reason for the fees starting at LMNRA, but it's not. The fees were first introduced around 10 years ago when the economy was booming. First the tags around $10/boat-vehicle, then $15, and now they are are $30. Look at how the park was 10+ years ago, all done without user fees, and a very nice park. Sure, they have done improvements since the fees were implemented, but I don't think it's anything to the magnitude of what was done in the years before fees. The problem is, their stream of funds dried up just like the lake did, and now they are having to get funds from other places, us. Park fees are a reality now and I don't mind paying them for park use (kind of, sore point for me), but I wished they would enforce that policy on every user of the park......

But yes, in the big picture of what our country has gone through in the past 10-12 years, the lake closing is really insignificant. If we have to do without the park while things are straightened out, so be it. But, I have a feeling we are going to do without the lake, and nothing is going to change......

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

What gets me is that we have paid fees, so the Lake should not be closed. Another way to look at it. The National Park system should be 100% supported by those fees, so they should be independent of any budget issues.

With that said, we need to be careful about this wonderful thread getting political. Let's keep this to a gripe or two, but no accelerating debate regarding the politics. Otherwise I will have to start editing. Just he way it is  :)

This was a masterful, shameless, shameful way of getting the last word in  :p

I though I did a great job of tip-toeing around that... :watermelon:

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Maybe we should all get together and bring a class action suit for a refund on the time we lost off our passes. Even though we'll probably only get 5 bucks back, when you multiply that by all the passes that were bought, it will make them think twice about shutting us out again.

Or maybe they'll just raise it to $50 next year....yeah, that sounds about right. OR Maybe, like the AES sticker we had to buy this year, we'll have to buy a government shutdown sticker for next year! Who knows, by the time my kids get to boat out there, you might not even need a paint job on your boat with all the stickers we'll have on there.

Besides, if they are going to pay a ranger to turn people away at the fee station, why not just pay him to collect fees? C'mon, how much can they possibly be saving by shutting down a park?
