What a long week, ugh! Can't wait for Friday! :D

We'll be launchin out of Boulder Basin as usual..

Will you be at Sandy? We may take a cruise over that way if weather looks good. It looks like a decent chance of t-storms on Sat. though.

Wow, just dropped off my little fishing boat trailer in order to modernize it. Getting rid of the independent wheel system, and having an axle put on. but unfortunately I got quoted $300 for it, ouch. oh well, one step closer to having my little fishing boat in the water

New poster, but lived in Las Vegas a few years ago. We loved loved Lake Mead, and were out on it many times in our Four Winns Horizon 180. We started out going to Lake Mead Marina in Boulder City, but ended up liking Callville Bay better. My only issue was dealing with the windy days. More than once we drove 45 minutes to find the wave height just to much to enjoy the water. Now that I'm in Louisiana I miss that lake.

After seeing 12V's post I was reminded to check on the rules for traveling into the Black Canyon. Stare at them for a while and they start to make some sense. At least it always takes me a while.

Black Canyon Restrictions

Motorized Vessel Use - Willow Beach to Hoover Dam

To allow for a wide variety of recreational opportunities the following rules are in effect:

Year-round (Sunday and Monday)
The canyon from Willow Beach to Hoover Dam (Black Canyon) will be managed as a primitive zone where people can experience a variety of motor-less recreational opportunities in a natural setting. Personal watercrafts (PWCs) and vessels with motors are prohibited on Sunday and Monday year round.

Between Labor Day and Friday of Memorial Day weekend (Tuesday - Saturday)
The canyon from Willow Beach to Hoover Dam (Black Canyon) will be managed as a semi-primitive zone. PWCs remain prohibited. Boating is restricted to vessels with 65-horsepower engines or less.

Between the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day (Tuesday - Saturday)
The canyon from Willow Beach to Hoover Dam (Black Canyon) will be managed as a rural-natural zone. During the busy boating season there are no horsepower restrictions and PWCs are allowed.

How did everyone fair out a the lake last weekend? Looked to be some gnarly weather blowing through, nice lightening show and winds at my house.

Stare at them for a while and they start to make some sense. At least it always takes me a while.

Me too, and that's my stompin grounds... (I'll withhold my comments on their "rules") :censored: :mad2:

Honestly, the weather was _GREAT_ on Saturday. On our way out friday night, we drove through an awesome lightning storm around Baker all the way to Primm. Saturday was great all day on the lake, couldn't ask for better weather really (in Boulder Basin anyways..) it was a tad breezy in the morning, no biggie. On our way in around ~6pm the wind was picking up pretty good, but still not a deal breaker. :)
More lightning rolled in Saturday night, got to watch more awesome lightning right over the Hacienda Hotel, and out over the lake (looked like it was hittin around Callville Bay actually..).

Our original plan was to wake up Sunday morning and head back out onto the lake, but it was really overcast and looked like rain was headed in, so we decided against it. My in laws met us @ the hotel and took the kids for a week.. Super stoked. The wife and I got a whole week to ourselves, kid free! :D

I picked up the boat Fri morning in Boulder and was launched by 9am.

Friday was a picture perfect day. This pic was at a place we call Gilligan's Island. It pops up around 1107'

Sat we stayed close to the Marina because t-heads were building up to the east and north. Turned out to be a decent day and an awesome lightning show Sat night with a total downpour.

Sunday we wet to Gypsum Bay to explore the caves. It was overcast, but the clouds weren't heavy enough to produce any real weather.

More pics of The Bat Caves. See the grouping of about 30 bats on the cave wall. There were some big bats in there too. I got my head side-swiped a couple times as they were flying out.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Thanks for the kind words. Gilligans is only visible when the lake elevation is below 1107'. Right now it's a couple feet high as you can see in the pic. in my prev. post. It's located in the Temple Basin on the west side, south of Mushroom Reef and The Head, just off Houseboat Island.

The Gypsum Bays (East and West) are located in the Virgin Basin on the southeast shoreline. The caves are accessible from East Gypsum Bay. They're about 1/4 mile off the lake, up to the high water line on the west side. You can't see them from the lake and it's difficult to explain exactly where they are so it's easier if you go with someone who's been there. We'll probably take a trip there over Labor Day weekend. They're probably about 50 yards long. There are a couple we didn't access because you would need to squeeze back in there with long pants and shirt because of the sharp gypsum.:fear:

Those caves are cool 12V! The kids and I like hiking around on shore as you never know what you'll find. We found the flip-flop graveyard once, Shell City another time, big chunks of fools gold... I'll have to try and hunt up the caves when I'm out in the area next time.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

These places sound pretty cool, I need to do some exploring around the lake more often to try and find them. I know I read that you guys use some type of radar app on your phones. But does anyone use a GPS app? I downloaded this one called GPS STATUS and purchased the unlocked version for I think $3.00 I've been using this app every time I go to the lake now. you can save waypoints and share coordinates with others via email, sms text, app, etc.

if those of you who know the lake better have the capability to share some coordinates it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED :D as stated above I use this gps status app, mostly for the fishing wholes I like to remember, but am using it more often now when Im on the lake.

Also, I will share some of my fishing spots with anyone if they need a good spot to fish.

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

The recent events of those that I know personally and of those that I have met here have made me more aware that I need to get out and enjoy the Lake more often.

Next trip to Temple Bar will include a rental room with A/C if before November. Can't wait to get back out there, it is very relaxing.
