Light heat around the snout/housing with a map torch along with light gear oil inside and around the bearing races/o ring will aid install

2 4 C is okay, better yet would be extreme grease in place of 101.

Once the bearing assy is seated, grease the threads of the retainer ring prior to install and final torque

I saw someone remove the fork rod with a threaded rod andwasher/nut. Any idea what thread is on the rod?

She's aligned, back together, and holding 10psi.
Before I reattach to the boat, is there a way to check to see if the shift mechanism is working properly?

Yeah I found heat most helpful doing the upper on my alpha gen 2 . Used a bearing heater to slip on press fit bearings
