its pretty silly to argue over that you don't need a safety chain just put one on its cheap and may save a life the hell with boat and I really like the turnbuckle idea gonna have to do that for the long hauls thanks for the idea

yes, but I use a strap across the gunwales ("belly band" or "belly strap" in common parlance) rather than two stern straps. SOP for many boats around here. And it worked--even though it should have been tighter and thus less movement. This was on the highway.

I use the belly strap as well. Although I still feel as if I should invest in some transom tie downs.......
