Thanks for all the info. I think I am going to try and get it on the water in the next 60 days. Check it the speed and the old school setup. May not be the right boat for me. Was hoping for an old school boat to cruise the wife and kid around in at a decent speed. From the sounds of it this boat may not move to fast. Will just have to wait and see.

It's not the boat that'll keep you from cruising at a fast pace. It's the OB. Look for a more modern 3cyl Johnson/Evinrude 70-75hp motor. It'll not be much heavier, and be a much better fit to the Jupiter hull. Fast is relative anyway. I have no interest in running WOT very often, just cruising and getting to where I'm going is much more important.

If you can find one w/ T&T or add a bracket, it'll be an even better performer. The T&T lets you make minor adjustments easily on the fly while running. That allows you to make those adjustments to fit load, running & water conditions an infinite amount of times during the course of a day on the water.

40 will push her, may even plane her with you and a light load of fuel. Anymore and I seriously doubt its gonna happen. In my opinion the older OMC triples 65-75 hp engine are great fits for these boats, not to heavy but ample horse power.

Ok. What do you guys mean that it might plan? Are there some boats out there that don't plan? I have never been in a boat that doesn't plan. Is this normal for an older boat. Just don't understand why a company would sell a boat with a motor that wouldn't let the boat plan?

Re: Bought starcraft boat from auction, unable to determine year or model.

Starcraft sold the boat, typically the dealer sold & installed the motor the buyer picked. Often a buyer supplied an engine they already owned.

You're overthinking this. If you want to run the boat w the 40hp, you can. Until you get it rebuilt & outfitted how you want it & for how you use it, its all guess work.

If when your done, it doesn't get you where your going fast enough or perform as well as you'd like, replace the OB.

Who knows, you, the Admiral & 2 kids might be a lighter load then just me & my wife. So my perception of how a 40 will perform is based on info that doesn't match you & your situation.

Sig just splashed a similar size boat, with a 75hp OB. It had plenty of get up & go, got up on plane & performed well. It might be a slightly different hull then yours but not enough to plane or not plane based on the hull alone.

Anyone recommend a good place to buy a Bemini top to fit this Jupiter. Have thought about trying to find a 10 ft so it covers the entire seating area. Also what about a cove for storage.

Does anyone have any good suggestions as to where I can order the rubber for the rub rails at a decent price? Looking for all white. Thanks

They keep the white rubrail on the shelf just behind the Hen's teeth :blue:

SigSaur got some black rubrail somewhere, and has a part #, but white, that fits an SC's rubrail channel may be an extremely tough nut to crack.

Is the existing in bad shape/torn/damaged or just not gleaming clean white? And the rubrail channel is in good shape.

There's been in excess of 20 posts without a picture being posted, the mob will start becoming restless soon and start to feel used if not appeased with pixels.

Sorry about the pictures. I have no clue how to post them. I had to have my buddy do it.

The run rails are not damaged or torn. Just not very clean. Is there a way to brighten then up
