Looks like the lower rub rails are teal. The same color as the top of the boat

Stardust. Stardust also has 2 step pads on each side. Starmist/Stardust also have the small cutouts on the sides.

So do you think I have a stardust or a starmist?

Hey boater do you know what your replacement windshield came off of. Did you have to do any modifications to make it work

I tried go measure but it's a little hard by myself. Seems to be really close to 17 ft from nose to tail.
If you measured the boat from transom to the bow, along the centerline of the boat, ad it measured 17ft, it can't be a Starmist or Stardust, or at least not a 1962. They were both just under 16ft along the centerline of the boat.

If you hooked the transom where it makes the stern corner with the side of the boat & measured along the outside edge of the boat, along the gunwale, then yes, maybe it is a Starmist/dust.

I just laid the tap measure down on the floor. Put it close to where the front was and took it all the way back to the rear. Sorry I'm new to all this.

No problem, just trying to make sure we're all talking about the same length in the boat. If you measured on the INSIDE of the boat, on along the deck (floor), and got nearly 17ft, when you got up under the bow cover did you stop measuring or run the tape up the keel all the way up to the top?

So you were measuring up the curve of the bow?

If so, it's probably not a 17ft'r +/-.

Measure from the tip of the bow, back to the windshield, along the center line of the boat, down against the bow cover. Then hook the transom near the OB & measure to the inside bottom of the windshield as straight as you can. The OB is in the center of the transom, so you'll have to offest a little for the measurement.

Add those 2 #'s ^^^ together, +/- about an inch, depending on where & how you measured to the windshield, and you'll have your boat length to compare to the info listed in the brochure.

If you have some help, get the help to hold the tape at the transom corner cap, run the tape toward the bow with it square to the cap and you eyeball from the tape to the bow cap.

EDIT - JB's way works by yourself. A couple of inches won't make any difference. Grab the beam at the transom and the transom depth from the cap to the keel. Those three go a long way to answer the burning question - What did you buy?

Has anyone replaced these old steering cables? Is the cable something I can pick up from a Lowes. I know I can order it but wanted to know if it's something I can just pick up around here.

Yup, the plastic coated cable @ Lowe's or HD works just fine.

Buy 45 feet, it's really cheap and sold by the foot. I used about 40 feet, but I didn't want to be short. I think what I got was galvanized, vinyl coated. Take a piece of the old stuff to compare diameters.

Re: Bought starcraft boat from auction, unable to determine year or model.

You asked about the windshield. I don't remember what boat it came from, but it doesn't matter. There only a few suppliers for boat windshields. My old plexi one was 60" wide, so I looked for a 60 incher on CL. Most are flat on the bottom, but the bow skin is humped. What you do is mount the W/S with the opening more toward the bow so it looks like this /-\, not that exaggerated. That lays the two side windows flat on the bow. Gives a rakish look with the center opening window forward from the front windows and the longish side tapered windows. Some day I have to take a pic.

Ok I measured the boat like you had said. From the front to the windsheild and then the windshield back. I am coming up with 16.25 feet.

Did you get the beam and transom height?

How do I measure those. I can run out and do that. I'm thinking it may be a Jupiter??

Transom height ^^^

If it's less then 16", it's a transom built for short shaft motors, which from transom clamp to anti-vent plate are about 15"

If it's 18-22" its for long shaft motors which are 20"+/-

Motors longer then 24" are usually sailboat auxiliary power motors

Beam is width on a boat. Usually measured in 2 places across the transom at about the level the motor mounts to it, and again where ever it's the widest, which is often thru the helm seating position
