Re: Boat Names

I've got a 176 Avenger bass boat with a 150 Evinrude on it, my dad nicknamed it "Hop Toad" the first day I took hime for a ride because of the way it rides on a rough Lake Texoma, and the name has stuck

my 1st boat...a lil 14ft 1960 cutter was named "wayward sun" due to the song playing while i readied her for my maiden cruise with her. now gone n replaced with a 1973 glastron V173/with a 115 merc, is called WAKE`n DRAGONS due to the grief i was given by a gal on a mini dragon boat n the near capsising i gave her frm my wake. heyyyy i was going slow enough i thought?????

Re: Boat Names

My Catalina 42 sailboat is called "Knotty Buoy" and my Trophy 2352 is "Doc's Holiday" (I'm a surgeon so I thought both fit well). I was going to name the sailboat "Good Sheet" but that was perhaps a bit too over the top for those times when I want to talk to the Coast Guard.

Re: Boat Names

We named ours firefly. If you're a fan of the series I am sure you understand. I was tempted to name her Serenity but my wife named the cat Serenity. So we went with firefly, and given she's bright red and we like night cruises with the LEDs on, well firefly fits.

Re: Boat Names

My wife and I have an embroidery shop in which we opened a storefront about 4 years ago. With some of the extra cash we bought a boat, so I thought we should name it "Stitch Bi***". It got shot down since it's not kid friendly so I need to find some removeable decals.

Re: Boat Names

I buy/trade for non-working motors, motorcycles, etc, fix them mechanically, and then try to trade up - good therapeutic value for me cuz I always have to have a project, and with this economy money is tight so trading works. I am working my way up the line to whatever it is I eventually settle on.

I just traded for a 1976 Steury S1500BR, 50 HP Merc, bright yellow, we are figuring out names

Make Lemonade - from when life gives you lemons
MySteury - mystery and My Steury
Ms. Steury - same as above
SunnyDaze - cuz she is yellow
TradinUp
BarterBoat

My 56 Crestliner Commodore Speedster I bought for $150 a few years ago, the kids call it Pops Putter cuz I never put a big enough motor on it for them. it's rated for a 30hp, I usually run a 5 hp and use it for fishing. We call it Pops Putter, but I have not painted any name on her yet.

Still trying to figure out what to name the Steury, putting her on the water tomorrow, so, we will see if she has a personality. I am leaning towards Mysteury.

Re: Boat Names

I thought I had responded to this one before but I didn't see it. There are some funny names out there from clever folks.
My Brother in Law had a sailboat he named HARK after his kids Helen Amy Robert and Katy.
My old boat was called todds BUDGET BUSTER $$$
Now I'm married to a wonderful Irish lass named Deirdre so the boat is unofficially named DEIRDREAMER or sometimes DEIRDREAMING.
Mostly I just call it the Stingray.

Re: Boat Names

30 years ago, I saw a boat with the name "SHEBROKUS" on the transom -- have never forgotten it. Am looking for my first boat -- probably a cruiser -- and have thought about using the same name...but don't want to plagiarize.

Re: Boat Names

So I have a name for my boat picked out and my wife is very artistic. However, I don't know what paint to use to stand up to the water both salt and fresh. Anyone have help for me? What do you use?

We are naming it Plane Jane.

Re: Boat Names

I named mine "service call" so if I'm out and get a call I can say I'm on a service call. Turns out it needs a service call by the mechanics all the time.

Re: Boat Names

You're right Ebbtide, I'd say there'll be some good ones out there from the dotcom boys and girls...

I must admit, it still cracks me up when I think of the sheer stupidity of trying to identify yourself on a marine band radio when the name of your craft is "MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY". I'd love to hear a recording of that fatefull broadcast if one exists!

Seen or heard of any other bad boat names that can compare to this ?
