Ned,
You have shared an enormous wealth of knowledge, skill, and history for which I thank you sincerely. You are a modern renaissance man who appears to truly enjoy teaching and discussing your art. It has been my privilege to read this thread from start to the present. I only regret I live too far away (in PA) to stop by your marina to stare with my jaw hanging wide open at such a thing of beauty.

It isn't likely anyone in these threads has or will surpass your accomplishment. Additionally, there can be no denying you have made an indelible mark on our memory and our collective soul. You have honored us with this project. Thank you!

It is nice after three years to be using the boat regularly.
A week ago I took her over the the "Woodenboat Show" at Mystic Seaport for a long weekend and stayed aboard out in the river. Here are some pics.

Are there any boats in your neck of the woods, Ned? LOL

My neck would be sore from all my swiveling and gawking.

Thanks for the trip report.

Sorry if I missed it in this short thread Ned but did you have the name done yet? I know you discussed "Driftwood" but I can't find a pic if you posted it.

Her name is not on the transom yet.

I think I’m going to do it myself, I have looked into how to do real gold leaf and I think with a bit of practice I’ll be able to handle it. I made the stencil, but this spring was such crappy weather there was no time.

There don’t seem to be any true “sign painter” around here anymore, so my only option to have someone else do the name would be CNC cut letters and faux gold leaf, which when you know the difference just doesn’t look right to me. It doesn’t have the inconsistencies, warmth and ‘human touch’ of a hand lettered name.
Picky, aren’t I. Lol

There was an article about gold leaf in the April issue of Wooden boat magazine The same issue where your boat was shown in the "Re-launchings" section. I presume you saw that article? With your artistry and attention to detail I have every confidence you'll be able to pull it off. And thanks for the guided tour!

Cheers...............Todd

I did see that article. That is really what pushed me over the edge into thinking I can do it myself. I saw and watched a number of names go on transoms years (... ok,.. decades) ago and pretty much remember the process. We’ll see......
