Smoke up! Put holes in your carpet and upholstery! Stink up your clothes, your breath and your hair! Go for it! But to do it in a public place and stink up others is rude and classless. Even a farting frog knows this....

You can't have sex in public.
You can't burn your leaves/trash in public.
You can't smoke in public.

I am with Pony except that I enjoy these threads for exactly the reason he doesn't. Challenge. It is tough to look out for everybody, so I want to err on the side of less restrictions, not more. I really do not see much of a difference between smokey engines and cigarettes. Yes, it would be nice if everybody had the latest technology, but be careful. Why not require electric boats?

This is literally debated very heavily where we often boat at Lake Havasu. There is a Channel that was dug to go under the London Bridge, ya know, buy a bridge, stick it on dry land, and then like everybody else, dig a channel under the bridge so you need it . . . := Anyway . .. this channel has become like a Cruise the Boulevard deal. Some would hate it of course, but if you ever liked that scene with Hot Rods, you can understand the same with hot boats etc. Anyway, huge Carbon Monoxide issue and they are considering shutting it down on busy weekends etc. Me? I know what I am getting myself into, so I don't go in when I don't want to breathe stagnant fumes orrrr if I don't want my youngest exposed to the sins of the flesh (I just read the articles) . . . BTW, that's another, very similar, discussion. One man's eye candy is another man's porn . . .

This issue isn't about the rights of smokers or the rights of non-smokers. This is about the rights of property owners.

If I'm a smoker, I have no right to enter your property and light up without your permision. And if I'm a non-smoker I don't have the right to tell you that you can't allow smoking on your property if you want.

It is that simple. The smokers and non-smokers have NO rights in this. The only ones who have any rights in this are the property owners, and they are having their rights destroyed by an oppresive goverment.

This is NOT about property owner rights IMHO..... If property owners could do anything they wanted to, then maybe I will go open up a brothel, sell some weed, serve alchohol to minors.........etc etc etc. So then I suppose building codes and health codes are an oppression by the government? It is afterall the right of a restaurant owner to serve me an e-coli laden steak is it not? To me smoking laws are just an extension of laws that protect us from stuff like that.....but like I said I think it only applies when the majority of your business is food. It is unfair for a bar to be smoke free because they sell a few pizzas to people in the bar.

Like I said, ride now I side for less legislation, but there still should be some.

I just want to know where the flippin ACLU is. This is a total violation of civil rights.
So if I smoke in my house and a neighbor complains, I can't smoke in my house because the smell offends them? Than that should be applied to all smells that offends someone. I can think of quite a few that offend me (RF ) and some perfumes need to be banned as well.
Where does it stop is the big question. Flippin government is really starting to **** me off.

Yeah I did mention the 30ft outside building entrances rule, which I am in favor of......but alas before you read into my words whatever you want to, loet me explain that I am in favor of that ON CAMPUS, I don't have an oppinion about other public places......I mean public buildings.

The point still remains the same......We have laws against drunk driving to prevent injury to the innocent. Same goes for health codes in restaurantes.....We can mostly agree those rules are good and yet smoking somehow is different........yet imho it is not.

That there, is entirely possible, and I'll bet, if it hasn't already been attempted, you'll hear about it soon. Just as WBW will be charged with attempted murder for keeping 2 strokes running, and by knowing that the exhaust can kill you, it is premeditated. Funny thing is that most are snickering at this . . .

I own a building, in my building I choose to open a restaurant. In MY restaurant I want to allow MY customers the choice to smoke or not. If YOU do not want to be subjected to the second hand smoke DON"T patronize MY establishment. It's that easy, There is NO reason for the government to interfere in MY business and OUTLAW an activity that is not obscene, immoral or Illegal.

BTW FYI I am not now and have never been a smoker...............or restaurateur.
