Re: bass king 1720 motor mount repair options

Just got your engine question...most of these bass boats use a minimum of a about a 75 HP all the way up to about 125 HP engines...

The reason being is that they can get pretty heavy with 2-3 people on board, a couple of full livewells, a full load of fuel, all the fishing tackle and refreshments, plus safety gear, etc...mine has a 140 HP on it, but that is the "old school" method of HP rating...which is at the engine, not the Modern way where they measure HP at the Prop...makes mine equivalent to about a 115 HP...

With boats, you almost always want to have more power than you think you need......If you can get on info on your ProCraft from the internet, see what they were powered with and go with something similar...

The builder may have injected some waterproofing sealant in the joint that will have to be dealt with. Try putty knives to break the bond but it may take something sharper like a utility knife. Hang in there, the fun has only just begun!

That's the spirit! Only crazy people would do what we do. We'll check back with you during the fiberglass grinding phase. LOL

Re: bass king 1720 motor mount repair options

One is probably OK, two is maybe better, three might get in the way...they are really only there to keep the basic shape/width of the top of the hull...

And yeah, must be the sun...

Re: bass king 1720 motor mount repair options

Here is the hull pictures promised earlier
Some Kinda putty over a few spots like this on the bottom
boat4.jpg

This is also on the bottom but on the back left side of the boat
boat3.jpg

A few spots like this on the corners of the boat this one is is on the start of the *spine* as I call it going up to the bow
boat2.jpg

Another Rub spot on the edge of one of the sides
boat1.jpg

I guess what I am wanting to know before I start all this other work are these pretty simple fixes also? There is one spot not pictured on the back bottom that is a lil larger but also covered in this hard grey putty stuff. My thinking on all would be grind them down and reglass but what do I know maybe there are other ways heh :)

This is also on the bottom but on the back left side of the boat
View attachment 167178Pretty much same as above, remove, re-do...

View attachment 167179Known as the KEEL, grind, repair with PB, and maybe a layer of CSM +/- 1708, depends on how deep the damage is...

Another Rub spot on the edge of one of the sides
View attachment 167180Again, same as all of the above...

All of these fixes are easy once you get the basics of fiberglassing...the hard part is working on them upside down, but if you are going to flip this hull for re-finishing...then it'll be real easy...except for sanding, sanding sux...

You sir Are awsome! :) couple more questions then I'll stop for the day haha Since I have the Fiberglass shells left could I cut the tops off add the stringers and reglass like the post above? Also my stringers seem to go from one end of the boat to the other. If the wood isnt long enough how do you *join* them together to form the full length of the stringer Im guessing the fiberglassing does this.Last question Any good websites to order from with good prices?

Not recommended, because you want the fiberglass that you will be coating the new stringers with to adhere to them...

This is how did my stringers... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=521706&p=3608196&viewfull=1#post3608196 ...I did them this way because they seemed to be a lot stronger and they looked good, too;)

You can also scab or scarf them together...

US Composites is one place to get supplies, along with Iboats, but shop around your area and try to find a marine supply place close by, you'll save a ton on shipping costs...

Re-using the stringer channels is not recommended. Difficult to get the stingers to bond to them properly. Best to cut them out with a sawzall. Are your stringers 3/4"? If so then, you can either use lap joints or sister them. Here's some drawings to show you both methods.

Lap Joint

OverlapJoint.jpg

Sister Joints Same assembly Either glue and screw with Titebond III or Epoxy or Gorilla Glue. Side pieces should be 16 to 18" long and made from 3/8" to 1/2" plywood
