Anyone else watch this show. There was a scene from this Sunday's show that I thought was really odd. Two loggers are on a river pontoon when the motor shuts off and they cannot get it restarted. Apparently they remove the gas line at which point the fuel hits the hot cylinders or the spark plug wires and the engine ignites. What I don't understand is that they spend a couple of minutes "trying" to get the engine started, and while doing this they happen to be showing a close up of the motor. The engine is cranking and there is clearly no fuel line going to this motor at any point.....the fuel plug into the motor had nothing going to it at any time. Clearly staged.

Not sure why that bothers me.....just makes me like the show a little less. Just like when the other river loggers get a new engine halfway through the season even though they had been showing this "new" motor since the first episode.

Maybe I expect too much? or I am picky because I pay more attention to the boat/motors because I find that stuff interesting??

All of those 'shows' are staged in one form or another. Soap opera for the modern mind.

Reality my .......

Editing and crap, I don't have any other explanation for it, staged? could be I don't know. What I do know is that if that idiot father from S&S ever talked to me like that he would have been tied to one of them logs they bring up and then cut loose. You can pick so many things on these shows apart that it would only bother you, I prefer to simply enjoy the show the way it was edited in the way the producer intended and leave it alone, Gold Rush, OCC they are all the same but take them for what they are, edited for TV shows....

And if you have the chance, check out Duck Dynasty sometime, Funniest show in ten years....

I saw a couple commercials and thought Duck Dynasty might be interesting.

I think this show was great when it first started and it had a more documentary feel to it.....Gold Rush still has that IMO. Ice Road truckers lost it after the second season.....

Just as it cought on fire I paused it - Motor was already prevously involved in a bad fire and the spark plug wire was off and the plug was a white as could be - Completely fake.

I watched that episode. It looked to me like when they were cranking the motor, they were playing sounds of an OB cranking but I didn't see the flywheel on top of the motor turning. The whole thing looked staged. That's the case with all these "reality" shows though. Some of these folks on these shows probably make more money off the production of these shows than they actually do from the jobs that are being filmed. Still fun to watch, but like a lot of things, you just have to take it with a grain of salt.

On a side note, the Admiral loves Shelby. I think she'd leave me for him if she had the chance. LOL

They probably messed up on the first take and had to redo it. I just feel like the people who originally started watching these shows don't need all the flash and circumstance to stay interested. I wonder how much of the S&S boys' fights are staged....find it hard to believe that if they were really like that they would even be in the same zip code with each other.

I heard somewhere the Chumlee from Pawn Stars makes like $25,000 an episode.

My kids and wife hate watching TV and movies with me. I find all kinds of inconsistencies and technical mistakes that just ruin it for me. What we are supposed to be able to do is allow "suspension of disbelief" so that we can enjoy it. I guess those of us who can't are the stupid ones. At least everybody else gets it and is entertained. We're just mumbling negative stuff all the time. "You can't fly a DC9 overseas", "a real trucker never says gas mileage." "gasoline tanks rarely explode like that", "it blew up midair, that's stupid" "she had her hair to the other side in the last clip", "why is there rain on the ground and then there isn't"

Who are the idiots here? Those of us who keep up this stupidity? Or those who still enjoy a movie? Problem is that I can't stop . . .

Glad I'm not the only one. LOL. I'm constantly informing the Mrs. of historical and technical inacurracies in movies/tv shows. They drive me to the point of being unable to keep my mouth shut sometimes. I've gone as far as to hit pause and tell her whats wrong with a particular scene. :D I can't help myself!!! I'm sure I'd be even worse if I were smarter than I am.

I have stopped watching television all together. It's worthless and I get nothing out of it except a mush brain. The nickname is boob tube for a reason.

just sayin...

They're on a river (The Suwanee....as in "Way down up the Suwanee river......")(a horribly racist song btw) right down the road from me. While the wood and river is very real, I think they do stage/recreate some incidents for the camera. They may have indeed blown up a motor, but weather it happened when the cameras were rolling is a different issue. The locals generally know what they're doing, and usually don't make such blatant/silly mistakes.......generally :)

I can't hardly watch Axe Men any more. It reminds me of a construction company I used to work for. Nothing is ever fast enough, good enough, or to the foreman's specs regardless of your performance and the foreman's preferred method of communication is screaming in your face and throwing your hardhat on top of the building then telling you to go get it...then chewing you out for not wearing a hardhat up there. I guess that's what you get when you're the only person on a crew who's not on parole.....

I can hardly watch it anymore too. The constant yelling gets old in a real hurry. I could never work for people like them. It was interesting when Shelby and the camera crew had a few arrows head their way. That looked pretty real to me. I would think those arrows would tend to bounce around once they were in the boat. Then it turns out its Shelby's cousin. I prefer watching Swamp People.......

Deadliest catch must be cranking up again soon. They're showing the best of season 7 tonight I believe on the DSC channel.

Trust me its all staged. Our company was in one of the seasons and it was completely fake. There was real logging going on in the back ground but what they showed was BS

I liked the part where the horse logger had to go up the tree to fasten a pulley and they pulled him up on a rope using the horse. How did they get the rope up there to pull him up? Someone must have climbed up and why didn't they just put the pulley up then.

I like watching Swamp People too.....I think a lot of that is staged too. The fights with the gators are somewhat contructed I think. There are times when I think they could have taken the kill shot right away or when they are approaching and the gator is just has his head above the surface. I think Willy and that treble hook is just awesome.

Deadliest Catch does start up soon.....amazingly that show seems to be pretty realistic despite starting this whole fad.

My Dad called it the idiot box! There is hardley anything worth watching - I usually watch the news; it almost always sucks!
Being an avid chess player, I too readily disseminate the faux, fasade, and inconsistencies that make watching mostly
anything intolerable.
In retrospect, the roadrunner/ coyote cartoon seems more real to me than Axe Men. I knew exactly what the coyote's
intentions were!

Re: Axe Men?

I think the original "reality" show, COPS, is the only one I believe any more. Had a story happen at the school I taught in in Ft. Lauderdale and there was no prompting or directing by the media people. They just recorded things as they actually happened. What they broadcast was what happened.

I get about leventy bazillion channels on DTV and there are only about five that I watch. Most of the rest is what idonthaveaname said.
