Re: Air America Files Chapter 11, but I thought....
Sure Curmudgeon I would be happy to. Your first hypothetical, is based on experience. If you hit your hand with a hammer, a pipe, a wrench, a knife, a 2x4, everything you hit yourself causes pain, then what would lead you to believe that shooting it with a gun would be any different? It is knowledge of how the human body works. It is experience. Therefor you have a basis for an opinion. Babies can put their hand on a hot stove and burn themselves due to Lack of experience.
Your second hypothetical doesn't hit the mark. Yes, you could say that the Limbaugh program is conservative, but how can you call him stupid, as each human is unique, (It is the basis of our judicial system) without so much as having heard him? Yes a deaf person can be a music critic, but what do you call the review? An opinion? I am not sure that fits the criteria of an opinion. An opinion has to be based on SOMETHING. What would you call my opinion of a given race if I called them a slurr because I got mugged by a member of that race. Informed? Rational? Useful? Otherwise it is more like defimation. Or perhaps a regurgitation of others opinions, but how intelligent is it to form an opinion based solely on the opinions of others? That isn't a rational opinion... It is intellectually weak. As my post indicated, I didn't say you couldn't form an opinion based on nothing, but how do you form a rational opinion, and what is the value of said opinion?
