Re: Advise please!

Thanks lipp, I don't know what I would have done, or bought, without all of the helpful advise here!;)

I do have a bit of work to do, mostly cosmetics. I vacuumed the helm carpet and cleaned out the live wells. Need to wash the deck and change a few bulbs. I plan on having a professional touch up the patch on the bow and as far as those rail mounts go.....may be a pain in the rear. Some of them are so corroded that I may need to drill them out. The rails themselves look good, just the mounts need to be replaced.

I also plan on removing the wood from the helm and giving it a fresh stain.

Oh.....and give her a name! I still like SAMMICH DROPPIN' TIME

Now if it would just stop dropping below 32 outside!!

Re: Advise please!

I thought about leaving them off Home Cookin', but with the rugrats......would be best to get them up and be done with it. Besides......I know that is where they will want to ride.

Chriscraft, the boat was trailered during a mad rush here in New England prepping for Irene. The seller and his dad got it out of the water and on the trailer in a real hurry. The ramps were cramped and I guess it was craziness. So it is sitting just a little off center on the trailer. I am going to read your refurb thread.....

The rear deck looks beautiful. No cracks, rust stains, scratches.......I think it looks great for being 4 years older than me. Just can't wait to get some fish in it!!

Fantastic score, SB!

Discuss amongst yourselves: Those look like passenger car tires on the trailer.

If you go to the trailering area of the forum, you will find a kajillion threads debating the use of passenger tires on trailers.

You don't mean to let your kids ride at the bow while the boat is moving, right? You really don't want to do that.

Re: Advise please!

Number one cause of death and serious injury in boating, according to USCG: Riding on bow (non bow riders).

Very illegal.

Thanks. Didn't know that. Seat is for while the boat is still?? I wouldn't let them up there without an adult present......and knowing my wife, she will have a death grip on them the whole time......

I certainly want to be a safe boater :)

Re: Advise please!

If the seat is below the gunwale and was put there by the manufacturer, it would be legal to sit there while underway. But water and weather conditions, as well as the maturity of the passengers, have to be taken into account.

It's above the gunwale, we will err on the side of caution. Nobody on the bow while the boat is moving......

Thanks again fellas

I DO! LOL.... You have gained QUITE a boat buyers education MUCH faster and less expensively than I did to be sure.

On those corroded screws do yourself a favor and google "impact driver" ... Then get one.

The Seat can be seen in post #140.

That would be a definite NO!

Riding IN a Bowrider Bow, Yes, conditions permitting.
Riding ON what you have, would make it a Suicide Seat!

OK, for drifting or trolling, conditions permitting!
Definitely NOT under power, Clear the foredeck, before starting engine! :)

Yuppers, seat ain't far enough "in" the boat. Stay back in the well while movin'. Though I agree with you about the bow rail Salty - when you're trolling, drifting or just sittin' around, it'll make a nice spot to relax or fish from. Bow rails will help a lot getting to and from it ... plus keep the munchkins from ploppin' off. BTW - get them used to the rule: Life jackets on before you even get on the boat, and they stay on.

 .....NY......

what are the ramifications of this?

Car tires aren't designed the same way as trailer tires - side walls on trailer tires are typically stronger to handle more concentrated weight (I say it that way because most people instantly think, "a car is heavier than a boat"). I purchased my boat and trailer and the trailer had car tires on it. Since I tow mostly within 20 minutes of the house, I've decided to just keep those on (talked with the shop that I would typically buy tires from and they agreed it'll work as I use it). If was going longer hauls, I'd probably opt to change out to trailer tires right away.

Re: Advise please!

Salty, could you take a better pic of that 'seat' area? I am intrigued.

I think maybe it's just a bump to give more headroom down in that cuddy cabin. If it is a seat, the rules must have been different back in 1977.

Either way, it's a nice place to sit while anchored or drift fishing, with the motor OFF.
