Quick sidenote... I'm my research on the subject, I found a really interesting chart that "reinforces" how important it is to get the correct ratio of resin to glass. It drastically changes the mechanical properties. 40% resin to glass weight seems to be the sweet spot for strenght, however, its the most brittle with only 1.8% elongation at break.

Glass alone is excellent in tension, resin is excellent in compression, but they are both terrible at the opposite. Thats why together they are an excellent substrate. But you get too far away from that optimum mixture and you start to get the inherent weaknesses of the item theres more of.

Bottom line why do you have sag in the deck..? Don't care bout the nerd news. Over the gas tank deck issue?
Cut out that area and reinforce properly. JMHO.

Ahhh, Ok...how much of a gap is there between the top of the tank and the plywood? Metal or Plastic Tank?

Hello Mad Props. Terrific Job. Been following you and Friscoboater for a while. Friscoboater for longer since he started the rebuild of the Sea Ray.
I will start my rebuild this Fall with a 1990 Century 2000BR. I understand the use of 1708 but not the CSM. Since the 1708 has CSM on the backside, there is no need to lay CSM in between. I assume it is to waterproof surfaces that do not require lots of strength. Is this correct? I know the 1708 is for tabbing and adding strength to joints and surface like stringers, bulkheads and transoms. Can you clarify some of this? Maybe Woodonglass has a writeup somewhere where it is better described where to use what and how thick/how many layers. Not sure if this has been asked numerous times.
Thanks

Chris, you are correct in your assumption. CSM has two main purposes, for waterproofing or to bond between to layers of cloth or roving. I covered everything on top of the deck and seat boxes with cam to waterproof it as it doesnt need much strength. Definitely isn't required tho. Some people choose to use paint, old timers formula, or even composite base material... if you are using polyester, you will want to get familiar with CSM LOL. The good news is, its extremely easy to use. Just a thirsty bugger.

1708 has CSM on the bottom, correct? Did you use it with the stringers? I cannot recal you did

Yep, the 08 in 1708 is the csm weight stitched to the back... I definitely used 1708 on my stringers,, actually about 4layers because I had an oopsy with some air pockets so I went overkill.

I noticed. That used a lot of resin I bet. If you would have stayed with two layers, how much resin do you think you would have needed. I know you bought 15 gallons, right? And you are still not done.

I think I'm over 30 gallons at this point. Don't know for sure how much the stringers and bulkheads took but I'd guess somewhere around 5 gallons all said and done.

Woodonglass should I try to cut the floor partially over the stringers or just inside? I imagine if I cut partially over them it's going to be stuck pretty good fromthe PB I used to glue them in.

really doesn't matter. You can and should use some cleats to make it solid
