Been a while coming now, but episode 4 is up on the Youtube channel. Its about cutting the templates for the front seat boxes. I wasn't sure what the best way was to go about it cuz most peoples youtube skipped over this part. I decided to buy some 1/2" foam since its easy to cut and cheap. I thought I got it pretty close first try but I definitely had some tweaking to do but it all worked out great in the end... If I had to do it again, I would do it the same way unless someone drops some serious knowledge..

Nice work! Are you keeping this boat as a daily driver after you complete it, or is it a project that you'll sell and move to the next project?

It was originally bought to "flip" (which is a counter intuitive word for a boat)... I found out pretty quick that 1: I wasn't going to make money doing this and 2: Why sell it after I built it to last 30 more years.
I think if you want to make money buying and selling used boats, your best bet is sticking with slightly newer boats that are solid still that have bad motors.
My first boat was a stingray that I got for 1500 bucks with a cracked 4.3 that wasn't winterized. I got a replacement and had it in the water for another 600 bucks and provided me 2 years of fun then I just sold it a few weeks ago for almost double.

On this boat, I'm probably about 4k in the hole at this point which really isn't even that bad considering what I'm gonna come out with.

THAT being said... I have "plans" with my youtube channel if I get enought subscribers and viewers... So if that pans out, this won't be my last restoration.

For me that kind of stuff is just motivation to keep going :friendly_wink:

Me too, I can't wait to get a point to start putting that kinda stuff in. I just wanted to get it now, so I can plan on where I want to put this stuff.

I got the amp at a fleamarket for 2 dollars cuz the guy "didn't know if it worked" even though he probably knew it didn't.
I got home and took it apart to inspect, and I found a trace on the PCB that shorted to a thru hole of a component. It was nice and roasted... so I fixed the trace and replaced the transistor... Haven't tested it yet, but that should get it up and running. On a side note, I should have realized something was up when the previous owner put a 30A fuse in place of where it says 20A lol

Pretty sweet deal there. Must be nice being able to fix electronics like that, my knowledge and track record in that department are pretty abysmal and usually just consists of replacing the lowest common denominator component that can be bought online lol.

It sounds like it would be nice, but its just on my list of way too many hobbies... Hobbies usually involve spending money for tools and gadgets lol...

Just replying to a previous comment on using foam panels as templates. The use of patterns is the best way in my opinion. Foam panels are a great choice since you can get them in the same thickness as your plywood. I also use cardboard sheets which can be cheaper but not as accurate when tracing hull profiles, but easier to cut.

Great work thus far.

Hello there. I was sitting here this AM feeling sorry for myself because what was supposed to be a quick paint job and finish some things put off for the last 23 years and put up a For Sale sign has turned into a full fledged renovation at our shack. They sent 17 cabinets of 18 cabs for the kitchen, the only one missing is the sink cab, 3 weeks ago. Tough to put together a new kitchen without the kitchen sink. It must be coming from Viet Nam because they could have felled a tree here and built it from that for the length of time it's taking to get here. So here I sit in my little spot because I am surrounded by boxes of cabs, millwork piled, new flooring under it all, not sure exactly where, all my tools on folding tables, a piece of 2X8 for a countertop and living with 1 small bathroom sink and a microwave. And I bought the wrong paper plates says the lady I work for, I bought the smeltable Styrofoam kind. So what's that got to do with my mess at a Lake Erie shack in Ontario and a young Buck in Pa. redoing a Bayliner? (I would swear you have a Canadian accent). I read some restoration threads and I realize I don't have it so bad after all. Keep up the good work, you are going to have a very nice looking, but most importantly well built boat by the time you are done. I see a wedding ring and a pretty in pink little tyke running around. Your wife must love you kid and most important understand your madness. I bet you had a shop big enough to keep the boat in as well as all your tools, nice and dry and hopefully warm this winter when you are almost done. (Yep being an old smart butt.) My buildings are all full of "staging furniture and stuff" can't find a single fishing rod in it all. I have to go out and spend more money we don't have at Lowes. Won't deal with Homeless Despot, another long story but that's where she bought the kitchen. I'm barred from them for life World wide. By the way my coping saw doesn't work either.

It doesn't seem like it but I AM doing things lol... The front and part of the rear seat boxes have been installed and tabbed so they are completely waterproof. I now need to make a template for the piece that goes on top of the front boxes... Its most likely going to consist of taking a crap load of measurements and transfering to a piece of foam to make the template.

On a side note, my wife just left with both kids to Louisville for a week, so while I will miss them, I now give myself permission to go ape**** on the boat and get a TON done.

Things are moving along nicely... got the templates done for the seat box tops and then cut out the wood, and coated the underside with resin and csm.. gonna PB them and tab them in place then cut the holes for the storage access...

I also found this weird antique thing in the boat... I'm thinking of putting it on Ebay... I could probably get a fortune.

Cardboard or Foam templates are a clear indication of someone trying to do quality precision work. I commend you for your efforts.

My son has a Working 8 track AM/FM radio in his 1967 VW Bus. Finding good working tapes is becoming more and more of a challenge

I got a ton done this weekend.. the front seats are essentially done minus the fairing and the cutouts to access the storage.. it feels good to have a place for the fan again lol...

I also started on the back seat boxes... before I ran out of daylight, I installed the drain tubes in pb thru the seat box... I'd like to getthe back seats wrapped up in the next few days before I go to the beach for a week.

Just ordered some new red carpet for the boat. I only got 16oz since its only going to be used on sides and stuff so I'm not worried about it wearing thru from traffic. I ordered 6' x 5' which is probably way more than I need, but I guess we'll see.
