Baylinerchuck I waved as I drove thru C-burg on 81 last weekend on my way down to Shenendoah lol. Also crossed over the Potomac down in Williamsport... Looks like nice boating!

Awesome! Here’s a late wave back. Where you crossed the Potomac is pretty shallow. We boat a few miles below 81 on Dam 4, which is called Big Slackwater, or further upriver on Dam 5 called Big Pool. Mostly only flat bottom jet boats can navigate around the bridge. Pretty cool that you were passed my stomping grounds.

As promised, episode 3! Next on the task list is either finish glassing the deck or making engine mounts, whatever I feel like doing more lol

Fun times. I'm glad there's no videos of me trying to figure out everything on my rebuild...how many start overs I had, and trips to re-buy the same items because I ruined them. There is a funny video though of when we splashed the boat for the first time after setting the engine in. We had everything hooked up, but no interior in the boat. We just wanted to run it and make sure we had no leaks. So, I slowly back the boat off the trailer...everything seems good, I put it in forward and start to idle towards the dock...something seems really strange. Turns out my cousin installed the helm upside down so turn the steering wheel left and the boat went right. That made docking kind of fun until we turned it over and everything worked like it was supposed to.

you're doing a great job. This will be a fun boat to have.

hahaha Timr71 I literally laughed out loud at the backwards controls. I'm sure I have several things in my future along those lines...

I should put my rebuild thread link in my signature. You can check it out here when you take a break. 3 years in and I'm still fixing and tweaking stuff. I just put in new speedos last weekend. I finally gave up on trying to make the original airguides work, even after I refreshed them with new lenses and such. Ultimately, GPS speedos will be the way to go.

Timr71 Just read through your thread... That boat came out slick! Always wanted to try and find and old ski boat but they are hard to find cheap around here... They seem to hold their value.

Thanks. With these DD ski boats, especially Nautiques and Mastercrafts, the value of the hull is in the $4 - $5K range most of the time. If you ever see one running for less than $4K it's usually a pretty good deal. Anything older than 1993ish, depending on manufacturer, is going to need a complete stringer and floor job, usually. There are the rare few exceptions.

One of my favorite iBoat threads is a rebuild of a Ski Brendella. Unfortunately the thread is kind of useless now due to the Photobucket issue.

To find a cheap DD tournament ski boat, you'll need to shop craigslist and be willing to drive a few hundred miles if/when the right opportunity presents itself. There's a few threads on the Mastercraft board, on correctcraftfans.com, planet nautique, etc. where everyone posts craigslist finds. I've seen some good candidates roll through periodically.

My uncle has a 1989 Bayliner that we skied behind for years and it's been a great family boat too. It just depends on what all you want to do with it. My boat is not great for cruising around the lake when it gets windy and/or choppy. But if you want to slay some glass...it's the right tool for that job.

Nice. I don't really have a need for a tourny ski boat, I just like how they look lol.

honestly, I need a family boat that I can ski with, tube with, and eventually wakeboard. . I'd also like to try wake surfing sometime but too nervous with a stern drive.

Question for you carpet guys... where are you buying your marine carpet from? I only need a little bit for under the side panels and a few other odds and ends.

Man... no motivation tonight.... went out and just piddled around... I got a few minor things done but the main thing was just really planning. . Since I chose not to decapitate the boat, I'm getting to a point where I need to get in some tight areas and cut and grind under the cockpit since I'm reconfiguring this area... I need to go by a tyvek suit cuz it's gonna be a mess. I want to remove the shelf under the dash because it makes it basically impossible to get to the gauges and switches. Plus the shelf is like 6 inches high and 2 ft deep so its pretty useless and easy to lose stuff. .

after they are removed I think ill start on the front seat boxes then the rear boxes which should be much easier.

I used gray outdoor carpet from one of the home improvement box stores for carpeting behind the side panels. You can barely see it, it never gets walked on, and cuts down on the yards of expensive carpeting.

Well, I did it! I didn't enjoy it, but its done... I got the last bit of deconstruction out of the way... I removed the shelf that was under the helm on both sides... I took advantage of not blazing hot temps and reasonable humidity to get it done since I didn't want to be swimming in sweat inside my tyvek suit.

Now with that out of the way, I'm going to start on the front seat boxes since I don't want to leave the help sagging for too long. I kept the pass through window closed as it helps support it a little.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAnd I would post pictures, but as I was climbing out of the boat, my phone took a 7' trip to the asphalt below and it now has a nice hue of black and purple all over the screen and no functionality.. yay, there goes 300 bucks.

It happens... I wouldn't have even had it on me but now that I'm videoing everything for my YouTube channel it pretty much goes with me everytime I'm on the boat...

Last night I spent about a few hours on the boat making the front seat box template.. I got the side pieces done, which was actually more work that it sounds like.. I had to shore up both sides of the helm so the window would close nicely and everything was nice and even then take lots of measurements, and measure again until I was happy. Then I used some 1/2" foam board and scribed it to the bow area... Took a few tweaks here and there but got it to fit nicely... The even better news is it fit both sides almost exactly, which means my boat is... like.... actually symmetrical!

Whole sheet of MDO is already coated in CSM so I will take the template and cut out the pieces and PB them in and they will basically be waterproofed already except for the bare edges. Feels good to be moving along!

Slight progress the other night... I got the plywood cut out for the seat boxes. Next time I get some free time, I'm going to PB and tab these in and then start working on the piece that will go on top of these for the cusions to sit on.
