You are doing an excellent job sir!
I cant help but feel a little salty about a major american consumer boat brand doing such bad work during the initial construction.
Im in shock, because based on the pre restoration condition, it looked good, and I believe it wasnt abused.

This speaks volumes about the american manufacturing mentality.

I too was shocked when I first saw this thread and the condition of the boat after about 15 years of age/use. It would seem that there were most likely problems after 10 years. It just shows you that many fiberglass boats are not intended to last long.

Now Checkmate is a fairly reputable manufacturer of boats, so it was all the more surprising to see. I recently did some structural repair work on my Formula, another reputable manufacturer of boats, the damage/deterioration was fairly minor after 20 years of age, but I was still surprised to see some of the methods used on the hull structure.

As I was doing my restoration work, and as I have been watching other restorations on this forum, my question has been . . . how long will these restorations last?

Re: 95 Checkmate Pulsare 2100 Resto

Although I have never (luckily) had to do any structural work on any boat I have owned, I too look at the resto threads all the time. I can tell you this. The people who take them on and publish them on here... Arent messing around. They are doing it right. and From what I can tell, they often look stronger/better/higher quality, than from the factory. Prob bc they are doing it for their own personal use, and not to flip or sell off etc.
I would have bought "Friscos" Glastron with 100% confidence. It was so well documented that its like you did the work yourself - except you didnt have to crawl anyplace, lift anything, cut yourself, or get dirty.

My current boat was 100% hand laid fiberglass sheets over meticulous "in" gel colors. No chopper gun.

I would not want to do a project like this again honestly. Lots of work & the boat is not even that big LOL. I understand Checkmate has cut costs to make the boat affordable but cutting corners is another thing. Most of the rot could have been eliminated very easy. Lack of drain holes for stringers creating wet foam with a floor that is not glassed on the underside is asking for trouble. Sad thing is I have seen some of there new boat builds & they look not better. Anyway few more pics.

EKmate, how do you like that setback bracket? How much total setback are you running?
