Love it.

Been a while, just stopping in to say hi, and she's still floating. All seams well, so wish me luck folks... first 'real' trip will be tomorrow (only 18 miles, but still quite a ways off the mainland..) up to an island/cove for the night. I'm confidant she will make the journey, taking 3 others with me, meeting up with a dozen other boaters, should be a good time :) And yes, on the look out for a dinghy as well.. its gona be a wet walk to the beach this weekend..

Sounds like a fun trip. A good shake down cruise for you and your boat. But I bet you miss grinding and glassing, eh? :boink:

HA!! Oh.. ya, about that glassing thing.. As we are puttering out of the marina, the girl I took with me says "Am I smelling fiberglass in the cabin?" Yes, the smell is lingering slightly, but its better than the rotting wood/stink. It turned in to just a two person trip, the other two passengers had to bail out at the last minit.. soooo it turned in to a two night ordeal.. :D Had a blast, boat ran and performed awesome, and I'm back on dry land now, but everything is still swaying and rocking.. Just loading up some pics to photobucket, stand by....

Heres a few from the trip up.. Was waiting for a friend in their boat to catch up, so ran slow for the first hour or so (9-10mph) Was perfect weather for a cruise..

Anyone in the georgian bay area would likely recognize this, an island known as 'Giants tomb'

My friends caught up to us about here, so i "hammered down for tinsel town" and ran the rest of the trip at 45mph.. just cause.. My friend got what i think is a perfect pic, looking back as we were running...

Unfortunatly, my friends boat can only do about 25mph... and the crownline just wont stay on plane at that speed, it just digs a big hole and burns fuel for nothing.. so off i went, and he caught up again later on. So we got there... and now, for some silliness...

Stand by...

the raft....

More showed up, I think there were 14 at one point.. Then everyone got into some beers/ect.. was a fun day/night..

The 'place' is Beckwith Island, and I never want to leave once I'm there... The water is warm and clear like this for 2-300ft out, and 3-4ft deep all the way.. The boat 3 over from mine is a 36ft Rinker and he gets in here no prob. I'd guess 150-200 boats were there yesterday.. maybe half were day tripers.,

This was about mid day.. I think.. lol: ended up with 3 more boats beside me the second night, so of course we had to carry on till 2am again..

Last pic I got, after this i tossed the phone in the cabin, grabbed a guitar and some more beers and partied hard

Woke up this morning to rolling thunder and pouring rain.. hmm.. sounds like a song.. so at 8:35 am we pulled anchors, untied, and ran for my dock at full speed.. We outran the rain for the first little bit, but i got pretty much soaked right through in the end (front plastics are impossible to see through, so i ran with the center out.. ) and we rocked through some 5-6ft waves AND got pelted in the face something awful... but still made it home in one piece, still smiling, and by 9am I tied her to the dock.. Only one problem.... after talking to a few people up there I now have a possible offer of $10K from someone to buy her..

The fruits of your labor are paying off. Looks like a good time . . . until the rain came. :)

I just read through the entire posting, congrats on a job well done. Enjoy it. I wish I had the time/money to tackle a larger boat like this. We just have a little 17 foot ski boat, but I think I would really enjoy having something bigger that we could do overnight trips on. Problem is around here the lakes aren't really big enough to do stuff like that. We have the Gulf of Mexico, but there really isn't much to do out there except fish and I don't enjoy that as much as I used to LOL.

Congrats on a great build and a beautiful weekend for the shake down.

Quick question... I have '92 250CR w/5.7 Merc and I can hold plane at about 18mph. Why do you think the big difference??

because your SBC/Alpha combo is about 350# lighter than the BBC/BII combo

Yup, what he said. heck, I'm pretty sure the B2 drive is twice as heavy as an alpha, and with the bigger motor/manifolds/ect it really does weigh the back of the boat down. Im thinking I got lucky with the 454/B2 package being there, as most of the 250cr's seam to have come with a small block 350/alpha.. Which IMO is a bit underpowered for the boat, being a full cabin. With a full fuel tank, and a full load of gear/supplies for two days, it felt like it was using all the power it had to get her up. Not struggling mind you, but it was working it. The edge of falling off plane seams to be about 28-30mph in mine (and its not full plane, still plowing a bit) and she seams 'happiest' at 35+mph.
