Has anyone ever made a list of what years and manufacturers are all glass? Seems to me a used boat that doesn't use wood would be a much better purchase than one that does.
There is a list that someone researched on HT floating aroud for a decade or so, not sure of its accuracy tho.

FourWinns starting 2004-2005 went wood free. Might have been earlier but my '05 was touted as wood free.

You da man! No doubt about it. Have to say you've inspired me sir. Inspired me to be extremely careful when contemplating buying an older glass boat. So even though I may not ever go down your path, your experiences have been insightful and of great value. Something that would also be helfpul would be a guide to what to look for. Just how can one tell for sure a glass boat is solid or not? I mean other than your foot going through the floor......
@LaqueRatt here is a better picture of the cracking on the exterior of the transom, Just to give you an idea. I found this while I was looking through some other pictures, I'm not sure if this example is extreme but any cracks in the gelcoat in this area should raise concern :)

I would call that extreme.

There is this thread at THT:

I have not looked at it in years, but when I did, it was not very complete and I'm not sure it's 100% accurate. Might be worth a look...
The problem with this list and others like it is that it is full of mis-information. Lots of folks think their boats are wood-free, based on a few sound bytes in a marketing brochure that is taken out of context, or even just hearsay.

Its not so much the wood core construction thats the problem, its how it was built. Some of the most expensive and sought after recreational boats are cold molded, and can cost many millions, but they are hand crafted with care as opposed to sloppy, inadequate laminates.

This is a Paul Mann custom sportfish in the making.

Just a small update.
I ran across a 91 Sunbird Stinger that has my exact sterndrive and many other things I can use.
It has new trailer tires plus a spare and new winch, boat guides (don't know technical name), new stereo, plus the engine had some work but I'm not really concerned about the engine because the drive is what I'm most interested in.
I'm hoping the shift controller would be able to be used (if in good condition) since mine has a lot of play and I like the round dash gauges so I'm thinking of a conversion or swap and who knows what else I might find :)
I'm curious though, from what I have read 1990 was the last year for the 2.3 but am I correct in thinking this may be a 1990 leftover titled as a 1991?
Would the drive have the larger lower unit housing as the V6 and V8 being a 1990-1991?

I must admit though the Admiral hasn't been informed of this yet as I am still weighing the pros and cons.

It was -24 degrees F this morning and well to cold to be outside so I figured I'd adjust the valves on the quad so I turned the heat on and everything froze! I hope the ice shows up on the pictures.

As far as boat news I did find out that the 2.3 was available on some boats in 1991, OMC purchased Sunbird boats at some point in the 90's, I read.
The boat I am interested in does have a rotted transom and in one picture I was sent there is a lot of water in the bilge.
If I do get the boat I may save the seats because of the extra padding on them but not save the colors :).
I hope to do something very soon because it MAY fill many of my needs.

You don’t need to move south, you just need water toys for frozen water…….😎

I finally found a good drive! It was a long 8 hour trip!
A boat repair shop did some work to it a year ago and the customer never paid or picked it up, so I can check this off the list 😀!
I hope to take my distributor to napa next week and have it rebuilt. Warmer weather it coming and want to get these mechanicals done so I can install the carpet and polish her up!

I must tell this story....
My next door neighbor whom I've only talked to briefly a handful of times brought my Walmart order over because they delivered to the wrong address 🤔
We got to talking and come to find out he has many OMC setups that he currently owns.
My youngest daughter lives 20 minutes North of me and low and behold there is a guy on the same street that has a horde of OMC items and still services them! Who would have known!
I also found out that my neighbor behind him had this huge printer and can reproduce the striping and labeling that my boat has, I've talked to him briefly also but of course the subject matter u mentioned is not the opening of a conversation. They are both extremely nice people, just keep to themselves
So in short, all because of a wrong Walmart order I've hit the holy grail!
Amazing how things happen.....
