I kinda like this...

next time im at the boat if i have extra time i may mock something up just ta see how it looks and feesability... I need to see how much walking room it would actually take away, we gonna be doing alot of fishing :D

Im gonna keep my eye out for a casting/sun deck

Yup that is pretty sweet.

I snagged this off another Iboaters thread I think its an older Chris Craft. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x97/alamantia/20150611_185840_zpsa2tkxdqq.jpg

really simple design, the sides of the engine bay just slide out and you can get real easy access to the sides.

Goldie, I might have to steal and tweak this design for later on for mine. I showed it to my wife and she said "Oh Yea, I could lay up there". She is all about tanning lol. How'd the window removal go?

Speaking of table saws just got my first one. She ordered it for me for my birthday and Lowe's finally got it in!

I'm glad she's warming up to the idea of restoring the boat, no pun intended :D Happy Belated Birthday!!! Almost all the parts above the cap are off.

My Back yard is 1/2 acre. COME ON!!!!
Out here in Cali we got this thing called Pods, they drop a container the size of your choice in your drive way, you fill it up and they take it away. All I gotta do is make me a sandwhich for the road and back my trailer down into that container!! :D Somebody put an irrigation flag down to mark my spot on the 1/2 acre!!! :D

Any tips for cleaning up old parts and old chrome? So far I'm thinking acetone and brown wool...

Good Job Goldie, and the prize goes to 89resorter :first: for being right on about the window. Good thing you didn't listen to me Goldie or you would have been having to repair some cutting and grinding :facepalm:. Glad you got everything off with no issues.

I've been doing some research on gelcoat vs carpet, in my case I already know I don't want carpet. I'm wondering if gelcoat over 2 layers of 1.5 CSM will be slippery when wet? My older brother fell off the row machine at 24 hour fitness! Lol so I need to make sure he ain't gonna fall outta mah boat!

I like gelcoat too. . . a couple of options though. You could

1) make a "snap-in" carpet that covers the walking ares yet can be removed as needed for cleaning and storage.

or

2) Give the gelcoat a "non-skid" texture as you apply it to the deck.

Hey TeePee!, Long time no see, how ya be? :)

Thanks for the suggestions. When you say add the non-stick attribute with the application do you suggest a thickening agent? Like say Silica? Talc? Cabosil? What do you think of using a stippling roller?

I'm diggin that snapin carpet idea for non fishing outings :D

When we were kids, my uncles and brothers were bike riding at Lake Merrit, there was a duck on the path so instead of running over the duck my older brother veers off and rides his bike into the lake!!! LOL :bounce:well, my uncle, who was behind him, rode his bike into the lake right behind my brother because he knew my brother could'nt swim, SPLASH!, SPLASH!,... they both stand up and its like 3 feet of water!!!! LOL :D man, this story never gets old!!! its been 40 years and its still like it happened yesterday! Im glad my brother dont read this forum :D Anyway, my older brother's equilibrium ain't been stellar so I gotta look out for that guy :)

Does anybody know if the side pieces on a typical open bow only there for looks or do they serve some sort of structural purpose?

Which side pieces?
Thanks Sup, I've decided to put them back the way they were originally.

I was contemplating leaving the side pieces off or drastically making them smaller, just thinking out loud.

The interior pieces that are wrapped in vinyl are just part of the interior finishing, they don't do anything structural. Typically they make good places to store paddles etc.
