You don't think that the bottom was installed then the frame riveted together  ?
I had T-bolts for mine.

I have to agree with 89 resorter worth taking a look. Mine doesn't have screws going up it has bolts in a channel under the wind screen and they go down through the cap with star washers and nuts underneath in the cabin. Some of mine were covered up with fiberglass but most weren't and I could get to all of them without to much of a hassle. Hopefully that is where they are hiding behind the black decorative piece of plastic. The anticipation is mounting :pop2:

My 88 Maxum looks to have the same window as yours. Under the rubber strips are screws that go into the fiberglass. Just use a screw driver to pop the rubber out and pull the screws. Its pretty easy. You could probably have all the windows off in half an hour.

Actually my maxum looks almost exactly the same once you take away all the interior goodies. The Hull, boxes etc are all the same. From what I can tell the Bayliner Capri from that era is pretty much the same hull and interior design as well. The major differences seem to be interior finishes, motor options etc. Get ready for all the bayliner haters... I wouldn't be surprised if the Bayliner, Maxum and Sea Ray hulls weren't all made in the same factory and then sent off to the individual divisions for finishing.

My biggest regret is that since I had to refab most of the rear interior pieces that I didn't do a sundeck at the back with one bench across, kinda like this: http://www.bayliner-images.com/2014/...44808-O-X2.jpg. The back to back seats take up a lot of room and that would have given a lot more storage for things like a cooler, extra fuel, batteries, lifejackets etc. I'm using captains chairs instead of the back to backs, at least on the drivers side. Plus why would your guests want to sit with their back to you?

When I get home tonight I'm going to pull the cover on my boat and take a close look. My curiosity is up now on this windshield.

Supra: That is a very nice example of what I hope to do. I too have back to back seats with two jump seats next to the engine. My thought is to go with two bolsters up from and the bench seat with sundeck. I have plenty of time to think it over. I am a long long way from that at this point

Anyone know where to get a replacement stim mine are messed up on all 4 sections. Looks to be just Phillip heads screws.

Just slide the plastic to the side. The metal seems to taper up so it can slide out of the grooves.

I took a pair of small duck bills and pulled that black trim back. Sure enough, their were umpteen screws, plain as day. Yet, one more thing I learned

If you do the sun deck you'll save yourself a lot of work. I'm assuming that your interior is shot much like mine was, if so you can make 3 large simple pieces for the rear area rather than dealing with 7 plus all the supporting framework. You could make it so you have easy access to the engine for oil changes etc and still be lighter than the stock setup. It means more storage which I've found is a premium on these boats if you want to run a kicker, electric troller etc. My stringers were fine so I didn't have to blow the back apart and I had all the pieces redone when I started to think about this. Final argument for the sun deck, is its a great place for the wife, GF or whoever to "catch some sun"

One more thing on the window, I found that a lot of mine were loose. When you go to reinstall I would drill a few more locations for screws that you can punch into fresh holes in the fiberglass. Those windows have had a lot of pounding over the years and it makes a huge difference to get really snug screws in there.

That was so funny LOL Thats so weird cause normally i can hear somebody fiddlin around in they pocket from 25 feet away :D but i didnt notice that! I must be slippn in my old age. :) But also, its summer vacation and the crews are laying blacktop at the school across the street. They had a few big cats and some over heavy equipment going. I thought maybe they were running that one post hole digger thingy, but who drops that thing only once??? LOL

Always a pleasure to speak to speak! How ya been man?

Goldie. Just been liven life, enjoying life and spending time on the bayliner with the family, catching fish. Ya know living the dream. Really enjoying your posts. Love what your doing.

Sorry guys but I'm going off topic for a minute to talk about my field trip today, just a minute I promise. ;) I want to tell everybody about Classic Craft, more specifically Gary, the owner of Classic Craft a local boat shop thats been in my area since like 1974 I believe. When I first started my project, I went and talked to Gary. Ever since, oh.. about every two or three months I'd stop by to say hey, talk about my boat and sometimes bring lunch for the guys. Gary is cooler than the other side of the pillow! He's treated me like a friend and has always taken time for me when I drop by. Usually, there are one, two or three guys working in the shop so he and I would go in his office and chop it up. But today was kinda unusual, for whatever reason, he was there by himself and working in the shop. With the 4th of July coming up he was super busy. I walked in the shop, and he was getting ready to lift a boat with one of them above ground hoist swing things, I said hey Gare! He said ?I can't see you with these glasses on?, so I walked up closer, he had a big grin on his face and said, ?"Hey! How ya been?"? I said awww man? ain't nothin to it, just hanging out, still plugging away at mah boat. :) We start talkin then I said, I know you're busy, so I wont stay long, I just wanna ask you about this window. I show him a picture, he looked at it and immediately said ?oh, pull that rubber strip up its screws under there? I smiled and told him that?s kinda what I thought, but was reluctant to remove it in fear of breaking it unless I was sure. I got a feeling its not easily replaceable. He said ?"yeah, its rubber but over the years it?s become hard and brittle? ?you gonna have to do it, just be careful, if it breaks don't worry about it?. I showed him one of my chrome grab rails because I was thinking about getting them coated or new ones. I was planning to clean them up with acetone first though, he said "and use some brown wool, you'd be surprised on how nice they clean up, you may not need new ones at all.? We talked some more (while he positions the boat and wraps the chains!) mostly about him retiring. His customers dont want him to retire, his wife does! ;) He has a waiting list for his custom wood boats and stays busy on the repair side too. He's too busy to retire :D but I do hope he's able to partially retire soon. When you love what you do its hard to walk away from it. Then as I was leaving he said "I wanna see you finish that boat!".:)

In my opinion Gary?s longevity and success is mostly a tribute to his knowledge and quality of work but also to his character and kindness. I'm a nobody and he treats me like somebody special every time he sees me. Then I get home from work and I?m reading all these posts from all my friends on the forum helping out. I have been so blessed to be surrounded by so many kind people! Thank you all!!

One more story and I'll get back on topic. From time to time when I'd come to see Gary there would be an elderly gentleman in the office and sometimes we'd joke around while I'd wait for Gary to come into the office from the shop. Well, around the beginning of the year I came to the shop and the elderly gentleman wasn?t there, Gary looked at me, paused and wasn?t his normal happy self. He shook his head and said ?we lost Jack? I said Jack? And then something clicked, Keaton Boats is on the same sign outside as Classic Craft. I said Jack Keaton?? The Jack Keaton?? of Jack Keaton Boats?? Gary said ?Yep? I was like WOW!!! All this time I?ve been shootin the breeze with a Legend and didn?t even know it!! Keaton Boats was very popular in California during the 60s 70s and 80s, not sure if those outside of Cali will recognize the name.

Ok, back on topic? :D :focus:

Supra: When the time comes, I'm going to have to do some real head scratching on how to fabricate that sundeck and bench seat. And you make a real good point about the screws. Going to make a note of that. --Thanks
