85 Crestliner Nordic floor replacement

Hi. I'm replacing the floor on my boat, 1985 Crestliner Nordic. Rotted out. Can step right through if I tried. Was just going to do the one spot, but didn't think I'd like the different color of carpet up in the front. So I got to taking it all apart. The two side boxes were mice nest Infested and just nasty. Got all the carpet off of the wood (floors and side boxes).

So I am wondering what treatment do I do to the floor and side boxes? I was just going to do 2 coat of old timer formula, and a coat of spar varnish. Like I did on my transon. And then wrap them in cartpet Sound about right? Thank you for the input.

So I was reading around Here and I also see that carpet glue is also needed. I was just going to wrap and staple. Would the O.T.F. have any effect on the glue or vise versa? Will be going to menards for both if that matters much on glue brand or what not. Thank you again...

No, once the OTF is dried and varnished, the glue will stick

While there might be many different ways of doing that job, your ideas are probably the most cost effective. The boat will probably be long gone before that rots again.

Airshot, that is a pic of my transom now. Looks the same from 5 years ago. Looks just like I when I put it in. That is why I planned on OTF for the floors. Need to build a carport of something. Try to keep it out of the weather a lot more.

Storing out in the weather shortens the life more than folks realize. Remember the original factory wood had no treatment and look how long it lasted....Back at our old house, I pur up a 6' tall privacy fence, then added a ribbed steel shed roof to park my boat under. The roof just cleared the boat height so no rain, sun or snow got to the interior. Also had an inexpensive boat cover to keep debris out. Parked my boat under that roof for over 10 years with no sign of aging. We always want our rebuilds to last forever, but in reality.....in 20 years or less it will be sold for a different boat or another interest...

My thought exactly. Going to need some sort of cover. Be it a boat cover or 4 posts with a roof, or both like you had said. But Im grabbing some 4'x4' chip boards from work. Going to throw them over sides in the mean time. Somewhat cover from the elements.

Forgot about boat seats. Ha. Might need new. But will need to make cutouts on the floor. So can stain edges beforehand.

Hello everyone. Well it's been some time now. got a little bit done. got the floors and what not all cut out. floors are being stained/sealed now with the O.T.F.... Got the boat all cleaned out and pressured washed. old flotation foam gone. And that brings me to my next question. I know 2 part foam is best. But im not sure if i could manage. What if i over pour, and need to cut some off. is that not closed cell anymore? I was thinking 2" styroform insulation board. but not sure if that takes on and holds water.

also is it 2 coats of o.t.f and 2 coats of spar varnish afterwards? the screen-shot i have only says one of each. huh. lol....

also i found i had a hole that has been patched, or more like brazed or something. because it's metallic. i did fill the boat with water. had no leaks anywhere, including the metal patch work. but i was still thinking maybe cover it with so 3M 5200 (maybe drown it in it?, lol). i would think that would help. Thoughts?
