Looking good...

"You can see the free labor piling into the boat for a grueling shift." Aren't there child labor laws up there? You should at least pay them something for the grueling work. :D

They look ready to go boating.

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Didn't get too much done last night. Couldn't locate my old tube of 5200 so I will have to buy a new one to get the transducer and speed wheel mounted on the stern.

We did permanently attach the aluminum bow structure last night with screws, will plan on painting the epoxied wood pieces for the benches tonight. Should I roll the paint on or spray it? (painting is my weakest area).

The one thing that I'm happiest about at the moment is how much weight is being added to the bow with all the structure going back in. It gives me a good amount of tongue weight as compared to the wide open bow I'd been rolling with.

Also the width is greater higher up in the bow, which gives the illusion of the hull being wider. That's why I mentioned that the rig looks more spacious earlier.

Can't decide where to put the remaning two pedestal bases, I may go with the remaining two right in front of the splashwell like the brand-new Starcrafts and Lunds.

I'm once again contemplating building a deck that drops into the bow to fill the U shape that will also have a pedestal. That will have to wait though.

Couldn't be happier with the looks of the rig since the windshield went back in. It really looked like a backyard resto with just the helm shield.:D

Thanks man, we are loving it too! Roslynn can't wait to not inhale bugs on the next trip out:D

I'm wondering if I might see a slight change in performance...since the added weight in the bow will level off the rig quite a bit and the windshield offers less win resistance?

The bow should want to stay down more and I'm hoping the "porpoising" tones down as well.:D(although it is fun for the kids).

It will be thoroughly tested this weekend so I will find out.

On a side note I'm buying another 6 gallon merc tank tonight so I won't have to run back for fuel quite so often. Found one for $30 with all the right fittings for my '71.:)

Help with porpoising probably and a smoother ride, but I doubt more performance (speed).
Seems like everytime I see pics of your boat there is more acomplished. Great job and give the "help" a raise...maybe ice cream and movies night.;)

Mike, I added all kinds of friggin' weight to my bow with the 3/4" plywood seat base I put in yada yada and it didn't change sh_t. (and for me that was a good thing).

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Well this turned out to be a sweet day for me in more ways than one...I was pumped about getting the gas tank...and excited to go camping this weekend...and I've been very happy that the boat doesn't leak and the merc has been somewhat agreeable...

...now I just found out that I'm receiving both a non-scheduled raise and a COLA adjustment(on the positive side;)) to the tune of 13% total:D:D

(This is related to the thread since I may have a few extra pennies and nickels laying around that can go towards the rig:cool:)

Brains, good looks, charisma, great family, a small yacht and now money too! Man you might just be the complete package huh! Make sure to remind Roslynn how awesome you are, eh! My wife thinks I'm a loser if I don't remind her now and then.

Mike, i had the old starchief with the cuddy full of stuff and the bow of the boat was never a problem. It always came up great. I put 3/4 floor and decked the front area with what i had left over. I haven't got a chance to put mine in the water, but hope to in the next few weeks. I don't anticiapte it being a problem.

Keep up the good work.

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

To stay honest and live up to my "at least one thing on the boat every day" rule I installed the fish finder(halfway).

If you look at the top right you will see that it's says 160 in sunflower yellow...you'd almost think it was made for a yellow 16 footer like mine.

I will be pulling all of this stuff out when I finally paint the boat, but for now I want to use the best fish finder I have. This thing has lots of cool settings:cool:

You can even put it on split-screen "flasher" mode...Kenny I know you like the old skool flashers:D

It doesn't have a setting where you can print the paper graph like the good old days though...oh well nothing's perfect.;)

Here's a shot of the wiring for the Garmin...you can see the yellow 4/6 amp inline fuse. I will be installing a proper switch panel soon...I've been learning tons about electrical lately.

And here's the exciting vid.

Hey thanks Broadcast, we don't catch as many as you guys(or as big) but the boat has already claimed a gill for itself.:D

I wouldn't have that problem if I were catching 15+lb kings like the good old days;)

OK, I admit it, I think I know what you think I should know about that statement. But you know I won't know unless you explain. Capice?

Jobbie nooner is raft-up in lake St. Clair on Gull Island.

It's kinda like Mardi Gras in the Great Lakes, hence the beads;)

This photo is from 2003, a couple boats out that year.:)

Glad I wasn't the only one totally lost regarding the "jobbie nooner". The only beads I'd have would be beads of sweat caused by the fear of the admiral catching me taking a "peek"!

Nice little raft up BTW! :D

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I am happy to say that after several hours of work last night the two 40 amp relays are hooked up for the trim and tilt, all the wires are installed with inline fuses, switches are in for the bilge, lights, and t/t and everything works:D

I am still going to buy a conduit to run the wires thru under the gunwhale.

I can't believe how time-consuming doing the electrical is:eek:

I've learned plenty about wiring and my buddy that helped out is the bluegill dropper so he's gone a long way to redeem himself:)

The rig is ready for the weekend and I am too!

Sounds like she is ready for Sanford! I have heard rumors of big ol musky lurking in that lake, never seen one though. I hope the weather shapes up for you tomorrow!

Nice, I've never caught a Musky and it's on my list of things to do:)

As usual I will be ignoring the 70% prediction for rain...I'm a contrarion:D

I predict 100% chance of having some fun and testing out the bilge pump switch this weekend;)

Camping in tents in the rain builds character.
