A 75HP Evinrude would be ideal.

Since I've waited this long to rebuild the transom...I may just wait and see if that Evinrude has good T/T then I can sell the CMC bracket and the Merc.:)

Then I could buy another Starcraft or at least a nice marine GPS:D

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Happy to report that the Merc has started on the key the last two nights out:)

Last night it cranked on the first turn and ran great up and down the river. Some idiots were out with no lights on their boats so I did have to take it easy on the WOT.

I am having stern light issues. We had it rigged on the switch with the bow lights and thought it was all set...but when we turned it on it was barely lit up.

After hard-wiring it to the battery it regained full strength so it must be a wiring issue somewhere. We removed the 7.5 amp inline fuse and it changed nothing.

I am going to run a separate switch for the stern light I guess. That way when anchored I can use only it and turn off the bow lights anyhow.

Other problem is that my fishing buddy dropped a 3" bluegill he was going to use for bait and it slid under the bow deck:mad: It is in the noodle zone under the starboard deck.

We have not been able to extract the fish and it's becoming to make it's presence known:eek: I'm also worried that if I leave the boat outside some raccoons may tear up the vinyl trying to find the dang fish.

Just keeping things interesting:rolleyes::D

LOL on the blue gill.

Mike, my switch for my navigation lights is a two way switch. I'm assuming this is how they are supposed to be. Pull it out 1 click and it turns on the stern light, pull it out a second click and it turns on bow and stern. Very convenient.

The bluegill is sleeping with the noodles. Is he still your "buddy"?

Ok time for some history...this is an old jazz club here on Round Lake, and small inland lake where I've been going regularly the last few weeks.

Back during prohibition Al Capone and his crew used to vacation on this lake and he had a private beach next to his private club. He had cottages all around the lake and I'm pretty sure the alcohol was flowing:D

It's a catering company now but was once the premier stopover for jazz bands on the way from Chicago to Detroit.

We fish right next to it and I always admire the building.

A shot of my crew out on Grand river, happy to be out past their bedtime.;)

A bullhead caught on a very unhappy frog. We caught our own bait, can't believe how many frogs are around this year. It's a good indication that the water doesn't have too many toxins so I like to see/hear them around.:)

We were hoping to hook into a few big Northern Pike.

That's an idea...I have a two-way rocker switch that I could use too, up for stern light only and down for both bow and stern.

Jeremy you wouldn't be laughing as much if you smelled this thing:p

At least it wasn't any bigger:rolleyes:, course then it wouldn't fit thru the only entry to the noodles.

My buddy says..."how difficult is it to get the deck up"

I laughed.:)

That's funny since my next post is about Al Capone:D

He's still allowed on the boat(went out w/ us again last night), we'll be on speaking terms soon enough:p:D

Hey, when you get that gill out just put it under the back seat of his vehicle with a note that says...

"Dude, you left this in my boat and thought you might want it back. Lots of love, Mike"

Great photo's Mike, glad your enjoying the water!

Old dead worms in an open container under his seat will insure he never fumbles again :D

What did I miss on the key working now? Do anything or did the ship herself figure it out? ;)

Kenny all she needs is regular use and she loves to crank up...so I'm gonna take one for the team and try to keep her happy by letting her run 3-5 times a week for the remainder of the summer;):D

Sure...I do plan on getting the carbs cleaned, getting the prop sharpened and tuning her since I think I should be hitting closer to 38mph, but it's one step at a time and I've been having a ball cruising at 32:)

Bbbbb but I don't understand Mike, I thought theses boats were to stay in the yard/garage so they could be worked on and restored.
You mean they actually get put in the water and people enjoy them?:p
I have a Merc too and it is finicky, once started it does great the rest of the day. I had probs with floats sticking so I'm sure your problem would not be too hard to fix. Did you fix the area the gill hid in so you don't have more guests in the fish boatel? Kinda like Raid, "fish check in, but they don't check out"

OK we are back to work, hoping to check off a few items this week and get ready for Sanford Lake camping/family reunion this weekend:D

It's a man-made lake around 10 miles in length so I hope to put in lots of hours on the water and put her away wet.

You can see the free labor piling into the boat for a grueling shift.

I managed to get the deck cleaned up quite a bit yesterday in preparation for this week's agenda. The bluegill smell hasn't gotten any better though.

And she's starting to look like a SuperSport again. Roslynn is especially pumped to have the rest of the interior bolted in. The boat actually feels bigger with the added structure. And the storage will be great to use.

DSCF6942.JPG

Roslynn attached a strip of vinyl to the side where cushions will eventually go. It looks 1000% nicer than the black bedliner some previous owner sprayed there.

That is just a primer coat over the epoxy. I'd like to have these pieces wrapped in vinyl but we ran out...sadly. Not sure what will end up on these, but it will be under cushions so won't matter too much.

She's looking good. All that help bound to make things go much faster. it makes it all the more fun and even more appreciated when it is a family project. It may be in an earlier post, but what kind of wood is your dash and what did you seal it with.

On the vinyl, it just doesn't go as far as it should. i made two trips and now i have to find some padded vinyl to do my bow back rests.

Are you goint to hinge your lids for storage?

Keep up the good work.

Oh yeah, one other thing. i saw in your previous posts a white seat, what brand is that and where did you score it?

Thanks Brad...the dash is just 3/4" ply sealed with epoxy resin. I am debating what to do next with it. We have some vinyl already cut that we might cover it with, but I am really leaning towards buying a piece of mahogany down the road and redoing the dash panels.

The side benches have cutouts in the aluminum for access(no bluegills allowed tough:rolleyes:)...lifejackets only in those. As far as the bow seat, I was going to put a pedestal base there and cut another opening for an anchor hatch. I'd like to buy a pre-made hatch eventually, so I might hold off for now.

That white seat was a craigslist score...I paid like $30 for that one and a beat up grey one. The white one is super comfy and in great shape. Not sure the brand but I love it. I will check though.:)

Thanks Kenny...LOL :D

I'm hoping to get the fishfinder mounted up tonight and hopefully bolt down the rest of the bow structure. When I got home from work yesterday everybody was already in the rig working in the driveway, so I've got good motivation.
