Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Coming right along, and looking good H.A.!

Hey thanks Broadcast, I hope to see her in the water by the end of the month:)

Great looking deck.

Another one checked off on the to do list

LOL thanks for reminding me...I just looked at the list and it seems managable:)

Get any fish in Kalamazoo? I was going to let you know that crappie are good eating. I always release the bass I get, but them crappie are in for a surprise when I get a mess of them:eek: Fillet 'em up and throw 'em on the grill, my oh my:p Actually I introduced my girls into fishing with those critters. Once you find a school the kids catch them all day long, and I don't even get a chance to fish, Too busy helping/watching them. Now THATS fishing at its best Dale

We did catch some largemouth bass, bluegill and sunfish in Kalamazoo. I will be frying or grilling up some crappie when we get a nice basket full:D

Dale I have to agree...that is fun when you can't keep the little ones' lines in the water:D

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Next up is another coat of epoxy and then the vinyl will be installed.

I'm going to start placing different sizes of coolers at the helm, sitting and holding the wheel(maybe saying "vroom vroom" with my youngest) to decide what size box I will build.

Jason was right...the space is going to be used up quickly so I may just keep it small. I'm thinking maybe just some shelves on the exterior of the box for my two huge Plano boxes. Easy access to get lines rigged from the seat;)

Some nice weather out this way! I sure would like to be out on the water:D

Thanks jspano, she's starting to look like a Supersport again, I've got the side console in to do another mock-up test layout at the moment:)

I was in a locally owned store called American Eagle that is similar to Harbor Freight, they also sell fireworks:D and I asked the guy about aluminum stock. He said he'd have to order it, but mentioned he could beat the Ace hardware price easily.

That got my attention so I had him order 10 pieces, his computer had tons of choices on length, width and thickness. I didn't even have to pay until it arrived so it worked out well.

I paid $50 for the ten strips of 6'. Maybe ask around and see who can order some in your area. I will be going back if I need any more pieces.

Hi HA,

In an earlier post I offered to take some photos of the pedestal bases in my boat so here you go. They're a really simple idea and make for great storage... even the cat loves them! :D

These cushions clip onto the four pop studs on top of the bases - good for kids to hunker down when it's windy (which it almost always is here!)

Anyway, that's one way to skin a cat... cheers,

Triton I really like the look of those boxes...man your boat is one nice rig:D

I bet you need a large treble hook for that bait;)

I have some sweet pics of some fish to post in a bit:D

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I took another break from boat restoration and had a great day fishing at my new favorite private lake.

This is a 27" Northern Pike that hit on a red-lipped 2" sinking Rapala minnow...we had been on the water no more than 5 minutes when he struck the lure. First cast and nearly one length of the lake trolling. I had not even taken a sip of my coffee!

I had the pole leaning on the oarlock as I was starting to rig my 4-year-old's Scooby-Doo pole with a spinner bait and I saw the rod bend when he hit it.

Thanks to my 8lb test Berkely Fireline and some luck we got it in the boat and boy was he was a very nice looking young Pike. We snapped a few photos and got him back into the depths.

I absolutely love catching Pike since they are violent and swift, they roll a lot and hit the lure like a banshee. This guy took some line out and almost felt like a salmon. My buddy Ryan helped get him in the boat and then passed the fish to me for a pic.

Ryan always seems to catch the biggest largemouth somehow. He got a few in the 16"-18" range. We hooked a few Black Crappie a bunch of Bluegill as well. Great day on the water!

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

These are the two Starcraft seats I got for free. They seem like they are from the late 70s or early 80s.

I am not sure that I will ever do a resto that requires this color scheme so...if anyone reading this needs these seats they are yours.;)

I am using coolers to approximate the height I want for the helm seat. This red cooler is too tall. I like how the ski locker trim looks.

Wow HA, great day out by the look of it. Hopefully one day I'll be able to post some fishing shots where I actually catch something... maybe I should change my bait to something without claws! :D

Like the seat/cooler idea... two things for the price of one! Boat's looking good HA!

Yeah he spends more time out on the water each time out. He's a real trooper and will be fishing more if he behaves as well as he did yesterday:)

Thanks TS, me too, shouldn't be long now.

I'm just using those to guage the height that the real box should be once I build it. It will work for the first few trips out in case I don't get the seats in soon.

GReat day on the water!

It sure was a nice day, and I have some sunburn to prove it;)

Hey thanks Brad, I do need to get to work and finish the rig soon. It's getting into the 80s almost here:D

Everything looks good Mike. Be careful trying to approximate your seat height without having a windshield at least temporarily sitting on the console. You don't want to end up having the top of the shield right at eye level.

Yeah I do need to do a full mock-up to make sure everything is good for height. I think may smaller blue cooler will be about the right height. I'm going to put the seat just a bit higher than it was on the pedestal but don't want to be getting bugs in the face either:eek:

Reminds me of a time back in college when myself and my buddy who is also 6'5" were riding around in his dad's Mazda Miata for an entire weekend up in Grand Haven, MI. Both our heads stuck out above the windshield and it looked like a clown car:D

Getting the vinyl cut to size for the sides of the bow.

Looks like a great family project. I'm only able to snag the help I have available for brief periods, so they are good for muscle work. Little do they know that I'll be enlisting them when it's time to flip!
