Wow I've never seen such dedication to restoration...even the ply is vintage:D

Had some trouble finding some from '77 did ya?(that plywood is older than me but looks like it's in better shape;))

Can't wait to see the rig on the water this spring!

During the process my son suggested we paint the entire frame. I used Rustoleum's satin black for patio furniture and was pleased with the results - very durable.

Darn it, now I'm going to have to do that! Looks great (and we've got the same color scheme).

Hey sprintst,
The boat is looking good. The ply is not older then me if that makes you feel any better.
All this talk about that white stuff is depressing me.
Keep the pic's coming.

I'm digging the black frames as well. If mine weren't in relatively good shape I'd be doing the same.

Here's some humour for you. My dog ate my seats. He's speeding my restore along. He got loose today and helped me find out what the inside of the seats look like.

Here's a piece of support strip with the model on it :)

I finished my rear seat brace and bolted the brackets on. Here's the reamining set of seats that didn't get eaten as well.

I'll get that garage emptied yet...

The wood from '76 had some small areas of black mold so it's going in the fire pit. I've still got better than half a sheet left so it's going into the seat frames.

I had a bit more time so I pulled the ratty vinyl off the interior panels. Most of the staples on the bottom disintegrated. I'll end up sanding these down and coating them in fiberglass cloth and epoxy.

Check out the styling on the piece of metal screwed to the panel. Straight into the fire pit.

The US Coast guard capacity badge will be going back as it's in good shape and cool to have.

Very nice touch with the actual fire in the fire pit.
Looks good and moving along nicely.
Keep it rolling.

I'll send some pics to the upholsterer this week to get a quote. In the meantime I'll be building the seat frames starting tomorrow night.

I'll get there eventually.

Got home late. Managed to pull one of the seats apart to look how they are made. These are the seat backs connected together by a hinge. There just some triangular pieces of plywood with the corners rounded that make up the sides.

I cut a couple of pieces before it got dark and hopefully will have the seat backs done by mid week.

More crappy phone pics. Added glass cloth and epoxy to some interior pieces. Helped the neighbor work on his sled before his race tomorrow and used his heated rental garage for the epoxy work.

I'll do a bit more outside work today as it's melting now...D'oh. I could have waited a day or so more and been much warmer. The weatherman needs a punch in the mouth. They should have a North American "beat up your weatherman" day. No offence to any weathermen out there :) Not a real beating...just a small one.

I'll peel off the old vinyl off my interior parts and get them ready for epoxy and cutting speaker holes.

real nice work..Great to see ya fightin the cold...i will purchase a ticket to fly to this weatherman beatdown...Not to sound violent..but "One good fist is worth a thousand words"...

Keep the picks coming...:D

True. It's not about violence. Just a small punch in the mouth to maintain quality control. :)

It's 6c out here so I'm going to get my seats done for sure and whatever else I can come up with.

Got some more done. Here's some shots of my seat hinges. These are of the lounge seat backs. The offset channel in them is about 1.5 inches wide so when the seats are upright they fold and lay flat when the seats are reclined as the channel accomodates the 3/4 plywood. There is a shot in there of the seat base as well.

Here's some pics of the hinges in action so you can get an idea in the event you are stupid enough to build your own seat bases.

I have bought so many new parts, rebuilt engine totally, etc now I am forced to build my own lounge seats. Truth be told, in theory, when I am done the seats should be clones of the old ones but better as I am epoxying everything, stainless steel everything etc.

Also a couple pics of the seat backs and bases again.

Re: 77 Starcraft Holiday 18 i/o - rebuild with pics galore

Shots of the wood all cut and the barbeque grill warming. The wood for the seat bases and backs are nothing more than 18 by 18 squares with the fronts of the seats slightly more rounded than the backs where the hinged attach. I am going to use tee nuts enbedded in the wood to hold the nuts used to connect the hinges.

Gonna let the bbq run for a while to get all the junk on the grill to turn to ash...no scrubbing.

Found some more of the old deck under the snow next to the fire bit. Getting ready for another bonfire once all the seats are back together.

Hopefully the next set of pics will be of the seat sides, etc and then final assembly before going to upholstery. Greatlakesskipper has some stainless steel hinges that will be perfect. I will post the exact dimensions of the hinges in the event someone else wants to try this.
