3M products always work, so I'm sure that was a good choice.:)

Glad to hear the neighbors have taken notice, I'm sure you've been getting lots of compliments on the rig:D

They will like it being quieter too I'm sure.

How does she handle on the bridge, probably a bit more rocking from waves than the lower helm?

Luhrs, I guess the remaining acoustic foam is for the engine "room" walls? I'm asking because I'm currently looking at the possibility of buying a 32ft trawler and she needs quietening down BIGTIME, so I'm interested in how effective the foam is. Thanks,

TII

Huron: I really like the flybridge. Just being a few feet higher helps a lot to see other boat traffic. I haven't been in any heavy seas yet but so far I'd say you don't get thrown around much more than you would be on the deck.

Triton: Yes I'm putting the remaining foam on the walls and anyplace I find a flat open space. But some areas I just can't get to with the engine in the way. In October I plan to pull the engine/tranny out to do a bunch of things, so then I'll be able to put acoustic foam in all those hard-to-access places.

I'm taking the boat out on Saturday for some fishing with my cousins, so I'll let you know how much it reduces the noise.

By the way I love those trawlers. I could see myself in one maybe a few years from now.

Luhrs,
Good idea on the noise barrier, but one question; how heat and flame resistant is the foam you used?

RogersJetboat: The catalog says it's rated to 225F, and meets UL 94HF1 and CAL117 (California Flammability code). If you're interested go to www.McMaster.com and look up item 9710T45.

I'll bet that insulation does the job for you. We seatrialed a boat we built once before we installed sound deadening material and she sounded like a bullet ricocheting around the engine room. Worked for us.

Good Job and Good Luck with her.

Stackz: It's shown in the last group of photos, 3M neoprene contact adhesive #10. If you're going to tell me it's flammable you might be right. I didn't check that. But once it's cured wouldn't it be much less flammable?

Sasto: Thanks for the good input on the acoustic foam. I might take her out for awhile tomorrow night and see what it sounds like. Definitely on Saturday as I have a bunch of freeloading cousins showing up with their fishing poles, all hoping to reel in a 300 lb. Marlin.

Hey Luhrs, did you go with the Polyether-based polyurethane foam, or the Polyester-based polyurethane foam? I like that idea, and since I'm pulling my engine soon and will be working in the bilge, I might as well line it while it's easier to work in there.

Ingalp: I just checked the catalog number. I got the polyester foam in the 2" thickness. They also sell 3".

It's much stronger than I thought it would be. It dulled the heck out of a utility knife after just making a few cuts through it. I think it's going to be pretty durable.

I don't even know if Marlin are ever in NJ waters. More likely we'll reel in some fluke and sea robins. Nobody in my family is a real serious fisherman but it'll still be fun.

I wish everyone a happy and safe 4th weekend!

Amazing restoration project and congrats on the end result! Stumbled over it the other night, and just got "stuck" following your project in "fast forward". Working on a major house remodel for the past 4 years, I know that no postings can express all the ups and downs on a project like this.

Back "home" (Sweden), diesels are so much more common in boats even at smaller sizes, so I'm glad to see someone here going down the same route.

Just up the road from me (outside Seattle), I did stumble over this project; Twin GM diesels in a probably questionable hull...

Best of luck and enjoy the summer on your new vessel! She looks (and sounds) so nice!
