I'm safe then. Or you're safe. :biggrin1:

were both safe I think. Or are you saying our hunting spots are safe?

got the rest of the outside finished. Ill probably cover some of the transom with more aluminum, but I had to do it to see how it looks. Im out of tape and green rattle can so thats it for now. Once I get more supplies im doing the inside the same way to wrap it all in. 20150906_121914_resized.jpg 20150906_121948_resized.jpg

I saw a guys duck boat the other day that had camo hull reg numbers on it if you're looking for an upgrade. The ones pre-made online are expensive but this guy taped off an area and made a camo pattern then put on the cheap vinyl letters and then sprayed a darker paint around the numbers before peeling them off to reveal the came underneath. They stood out pretty good so I don't think the authorities would give him any grief.

That would be neat but Im ok with the uneven hand painted reg numbers. Wanted it to have the non professional touch to it.

I'm not a big fan of cammo, but yours is turning out real nice. :encouragement:

I appreciate the comment TN! Thanks.
Got the inside done. Not much I can do to it now until I pull it into some cover and get an outside perspective of how it will actually look. The areas I plan on hunting eventually the most is the sawgrass in south florida so I think it should blend in fine. (plus the added palm branches we use to help out.

still need a motor though. Thats the biggest purchase I need but dont really have the means at the moment so looks like its hunting out of the yak again this year.

I know I said I didnt want to use the usual stencils, But a friend brought me a folder full of ones he made with his computer/printer/cutter thing so I couldnt resist a little playing around with them...

so my dad has a 88 yamaha 90 hp spare/parts motor w/out a lower unit. I may have roughly 1k towards sometthing else used. Dad wants his spare unit to sell with his Hewes flats boat and matching good motor. Understandable. right? BUT, what do yall think about that motor on a 16 SS if I put the Splaswell back on?

Looking for opinions from those whove gone before me on this.

Looks like the max HP on a 77 16'er is 85hp. Technically is would be an over powered. Might check with local authorities and/or your Ins. Co. on any ill effects.

It would make that hull fly.

I remember reading that Starcraft changed the max hp ratings on these hulls from 85 to 90 hp around 1981. Mine came with a 90 hp Johnson, I have no intentions of swapping it out for an 85 lol. I do think it's a little overkill for my boat, but it's what I have. I have squeezed 45 mph out of her, but lately all loaded up with batteries and fuel and people etc, the most I get is 39-40 mph. Which really is too fast for me, typically i keep my max speed around 25-30 mph and my fuel lasts a lot longer lol.

Lol, Good point on the insurance aspect. I forget that little part playing into the HP rating. And I will want this insured once on the water. But it would be fast as.....

not much of an update here, but I am trying to figure out how/where I will want my kayak to fit in this thing. I also brought the spashwell back out from the back yard. Looks like I will be burning the skin with some more paint stripper again. Im going to have to take the side walls out to get it in right, but that will give me a chance to put foam behind them anyway.

well, here we go again with the stripping and grinding. Gonna have to order some rivets and figure a way to really brace this sucker in there good to support my weight and to maybe be able to stand on it. 20150919_162215_resized.jpg
