Rough life... I know. Someone has to do it.

I feel your pain :D
Was involved in the Louisville ski club for several years and skied at little ones local to out in your area. Tahoe, Mammoth, Deer Valley (really like Deer), Sundance, Targhee, Jackson Hole (oh my aching legs) and others.

Hooking up the electric fuel pump. I don't have the terminal on the starter solenoid that you would hook up for pump power when the starter is cranking. Wanted to check my thinking, seems correct to hook to the wire coming from the ignition switch to the slave solenoid would be correct.

Before I voice my opinion on your thought, are you sure the starter you have is a marine one?

Guess so, yes connecting to the top terminal Yel/Red wire connection will work, or same wire at the starter

That is how I had it wired, cut that back out. Taken from the Yel/Red, that wire then T's to the full time power source from the pressure switch and goes to the pump. That will work perfectly until power is supplied through the oil pressure switch - then it would feed back and run the starter.... Doggoneit. It will do the same thing if taken from the ignition side of the slave.

I don't see an automated location to pull power. So I ordered up a new starter with the correct terminals. Solve that daggit. Alternative was to put a horn button primer - I can just see that working out poorly.

That will fix the issue the easy way, but the slave terminal would have worked. As for the primer, agree that had red neck all over it

If I pulled from the slave terminal, when the oil pressure comes up the power would come from that and back power the slave terminal engaging it and sending power to the starter. I don't see any way to avoid that short of sticking a diode block in between - or buying a starter and doing it right.

Your correct, that blew right past me. The new starter would be the way to go, either that or install a relay, but that would be a bit much.

Big day - Motor Drop In today!

It actually does fit. How about that!

And making a jig to set motor mount height at 13 degrees down off transom is just right. I set the mounts to dead center and the alignment bar slides right in. My 15 yo old son and I dropped it in using the bucket on my tractor, bolted up the rear mounts. Marked the front mounts with a felt pen after checking alignment was close, then re-pulled the motor and drilled the front motor mount holes. Dropped right back in - had to chase springs and washers and stuff at least once. Bolted up and went for a beer.

I am all jazzed up.

That's a big milestone. Hearing her run for the first time or floating makes you forget all the time and possibly money. It's cool to see the kids help out too :)

Thanks spintst. We had a great time.

Quick question, This is a converted to Vortec 4.3L from a non-Vortec engine. PO installed a Performa manifold and an adapter for the Roc carburetor. The whole darn thing is about an inch too high for my dog house to fit on.

The Edelbrock 1409 would fit directly on the Performa without any adapalators? PO also removed all the choke parts: plate, rod, and linkages. Now that it is all tuned up it is hard to start and won't idle until warm. PITA finding carb parts.....

Anyway, if I can gain enough height it probably cost less to replace the carb than the rebuild the doghouse.

Ayuh,.... The 1409 is a dual pattern carb, so, Ya, it oughta bolt right on,.....

A Great carb, exactly the same as the Merc/ Weber 9600,.....

Thanks Gentlemen. Now, this el cheapo job has gotten expensive. Time to start selling off the 3L and Alpha 1 and help pay for some of this. Bent my budget a bunch to first find severe water pitting in cylinder 6 and now to get a carb. No holds barred though. I cannot imagine taking this out of Monterey this summer with half @$$ed power.

Preciate all the good advice.

Edelbrock.jpg That Edelbrock 1409 showed up. Nice, easiest to work on I have ever seen. The marine version has no extra stuff needing be blocked off. I like simple. Also got the jet kit for it that matches the 4.3. Seems a lot of carb for a 4.3. I suppose like everything else, stay out of the secondaries and it will stay off the empty mark.

It was interesting to see it has the Weber casting marks on it and just an Edelbrock sticker.

Since I have an electric fuel pump, I suppose I can just permanently block off that high side vent hose fitting with 5200 or marine goop?

Now I get to bend a new fuel line to fit. Just got the one to the Roc where I wanted it, too....
