There have been people who have done AL floors. No reason why not for a side panel. Would cost more but certainly is indestructible. I remember hearing about the “skillet” effect from when the sun heats up a surface, but that seems to be for where you walk more. For the battleship, more metal seems appropriate.

Well I ordered a 4x8 sheet sheet of .080” 3003 aluminum. The supplier had 5052 for $200 and the 3003 was $180 so went with that, hope it’s ok.

Looking at the differences, doesnt seem to be an issue for the side panels you are using it for. Cant wait to see how it looks all riveted in! I like the hosing out the boat idea - nothing better than an easy cleanup. Making me consider other options for my sides now. If money were no object my floors would be aluminum covered in hydroturf. Maybe next resto haha

I contemplated doing the AL floor and hydro turf but it would cost more than the entire boat and motor is worth lol🤪. I’m hoping this way that if I ever have to replace floor and transom it will be easier bc before I couldn’t get the floor out with out taking the side panels off

Got some work done last night. Nothing to exiting. Just some sanding on the floor panels rounded all the edges so the epoxy will work easier. On more panel to go

I fully understand not putting too much money into the boat. Im already past what I paid for my boat and 2 motors lol, but some of that is in tools so thats a wash. Will you be able to remove the floor without removing the side panels with it being AL?? Cause that would make a lot of sense.

Yeah I didn’t think I would have gone through so much money in consumables (cutting disks, sanding disks, wire wheels, gloves, acetone, etc)

yes I will be able to pull the floor with out removing the sides. I would have to pull the steps that go to the dash but that’s not too bad

Well, my AL sheet showed up. It is actually a 4'x10' piece .08" thick. I guess I'll have some extra to play around with.

I did my side panels in aluminum. Its 5200 to plywood that has been coated 3 times with spar urethane. I have rivet nuts in the floor, the panels are screwed into those with 10/32 ss screws. They can be removed easy to get to everything if needed. I'll get a better pic next time I'm working on it.

Well I got one panel in and turns out I only had a about a dozen blind rivets so I will get more tomorrow. I did put foam behind it. I think it will look better when fully riveted. I am also putting a 2” AL trim piece across the gunwale since the sides don’t go all the way to the top any more and there are a bunch of holes. I found some rubber trim to put across the new AL panel also so people don’t get cut. D039B59F-CB03-4914-9428-CAD7AC11138A.jpeg95F44FCF-2F1B-4417-80C9-D9C6DB6BFD21.jpeg

Ya, if I had known I was going to spend as much as I did on the rebuild I probably would have walked away....

That being said, I wouldn't change it and we love how it turned out. Plus I literally know every square inch of the hull/engine. So if something breaks I know how to fix it.

I like the AL side panels, wonder how they would look with marine vinyl with adhesive on them rather than paint?

My V5 model doesn't have the side trays, the panels go to the underside of the gunnels but you get the idea how they look with vinyl on them.

Made some headway on the side panels. Everything is in but need to finish rivets, elbow started to give out on me. @Watermann i thought about doing vinyl but it’s all trimmed out in AL and can’t wrap the panel now. Also got a transducer mount installed and the one floor panel reinforced for the seat bases. Now the floor is tied into the side and gunwales. My helper came to the warehouse today but he is not the best with tools C64A9CAE-9F69-439E-BE7F-ADBAE516B16C.jpegB5F4BA4C-12CC-4285-8248-12137625EDB3.jpeg37C6D33C-C244-4077-9B6B-6A8762270CBC.jpegB65813F2-5ABA-4AAD-8CC4-27D109596571.jpeg

Got the sides riveted up and pretty happy with the way the are looking. Started cutting out foam. Going to make the middle foam piece smaller and glue to the pieces next to it to raise it off the hull to make a water channel of the wheel holes get clogged in the ribs

And yes I will be giving the hull a good cleaning before installing the foam and flooring

Looking real nice! I like the idea where floors are removable and the sides are AL. Thats solid.
