long pond, lakeville, mass

Are there any little islands where we can sandbar on? That's a good size pond. I've always wanted to go there but was always afraid I might wreck a prop not knowing anything about Long Pond and never having been able to find a chart of it.

I live in Florida now and planning a trip to the Bahama Islands for this summer. When I was a kid and don't know the logistics of your areas we used to stay in Potters cove at Prudence Island. We all had a great time.Clam all day and Clam bakes right on the beach at night. Good memories

It is a shallow pond 10 - 15 feet. You could look at a chart on www.massgov and look at long pond in lakeville / freetown. No sandbars that I know of, but there is town beach on the freetown side and a day camp, cathedral camp , that is sometimes rented out for day events. I usually go there almost every weekend to fish or tube with the kids in the summer and I havent had a problem yet without a depth finder. I just recently purchased one so I will have one this year. This is a popular tubing, water ski and fishing spot.

The cove was good and gives a consistent target to shoot for, as alternates I'll suggest Webster lake on the Ma-Ct-Ri border..or the Bassett island party last saturday in july (band on a barge in pocassett harbor) buzzards bay.

Re: 2011 New England Get Together

Hi Everyone.

Its been a long winter but my boat is 85% ready to go. We are so looking forward to boating season.

I have given this a little bit of thought I am thinking that Narragansett Bay would be great for a few reasons.

1. It is centrally located and people can launch from almost anywhere in RI. If you were coming up from Ct you could launch in N.Kingstown RI.

West Warwick if coming from Worchester area south on 146.

Fall River if coming down 24 or off the Cape.

2. The water is protected so smaller boats can go and have fun without the admiral needing a sports bra.. oops i mean sports bikini.

There is a nice cove in Prudence island. Its on the east side of the island. There is no sandy beach. A beach of small rocks.

Long pond is nice as well. You really need to be careful where you go because Rocks are every where. Launching is difficult with a large boat because the ramp isn't deep enough. No Dock. But Long is nice and warm.. and fresh.

Of course I like Narragansett Bay since it's close by but it really is very convenient for many due to it being right off of Rt. 95 and 195. I can provide a bunch of boat ramp locations for those who are unfamiliar with the bay or if everyone wants to meet at a particular ramp, we can do that too. We could "sandbar" on Patience Island which is a little island just West of Prudence Island. You can put your boat right up onto the beach...no rocks to mess you up. My avatar is a picture of my son on Patience Island with our old 18 foot boat in the background.

i don't go in fresh water with my boat i don't like worrying about all the rocks in the ponds and i prefer salt water i know about saltwater more than fresh

SMALLBOATLOVER- I know how you feel! So many of the lakes around me are shallow. I'm. Use to taking it slow untill I map out my running course.

Lakes are fine but we need to make sure we have good charts of the lake for all of us. I have alot of the electronic maps in my chart plotter but i need a paper chart as well.

I also need to have a pretty deep ramp. I have a 40" draft. A lot of lakes mid summer dont give me enough to even get off the trailer and not even close to let me get back on.
