Rick Any thoughts on post 45?Nice. Good luck on your test run
Question one. In the upper gear case, the seal that keeps the water out, I believe its called the upper drive, lower drive shaft seal, the one you can pry out with a screw driver to change. Which way does the seal face when seated? Does it face out with the spring? I think it should but I noted the spring facing into the cavity before I removed it.
Question 2. In the bell housing where the shift rod/shaft goes upto the bell crank, which way does that seal lip face, up or down?
thanks Rick. I can picture it now - will go check it out.Grounding lugs. Look at parts diagram for sterndrives to see locations. Or look for a screw hole right next to one of the lower right side upper gear housing to bell housing stud mounting hole and the other one is in upper where it sits on stud from lower by the shift shaft.
I went ahead and replaced all my transom bolts with OEM from Merc. I also use Vibra-Tite on all steel bolts and studs going into aluminum. Keeps down the electrolysis and corrosion.
