Question. I need to clean off the residue of the old transom assembly where the old seal sat. There is some really hard deposits of the old seal that I cant easily get off. I dont want to sand it off because i feel that this may compromise the paint. Any recommended techniques products to use that will soften it strip it off?

I ended up using a product called "goop off" it mad it soft enough to sand it down. I will need to touch up the paint.

Completed Transom assembly.jpg

Not the best picture, but here is the completed transom assembly with every gasket or seal replaced. I did not end up replacing the steering pin as it was still ok in my books. Plan on using the bellows adhesive to hold the transom seal in place when the time comes. I did replace some of the bolts that go thru the transom as they were rotted.

I will post a pic of the back side of the transom after i complete the goop removal. I also have new stickers, so those will go on once everything is mounted up.

Drain plug 1.jpgI need to clean tap out the threads as all four manifold plugs holes are gross. Not sure what the thread size is. My tap and die set does not seam to have the right size. Almost looks like a 1/2 inch NF 20 but not sure and dont want to make it worse. Thoughts?

Motor waiting to go in.jpgHere is the motor waiting to be installed. It got a new T stat now and I gave it a general wash down this week end. Just waiting for September now for the swap. Drive is ready waiting as well.

If the plugs are hollow, replace them with solid ones from Ace et al. I don't know why Mercruiser ever used hollow plugs, but they are easy to snap off.

Well the boat is coming out the water this weekend! Swap is only 1week away. Bit nervous to be honest. I think I have thought of everything.

Getting ready to pluck out the pig 2.3L. As it stands tonight everything is unbolted, disconnected.
