Remember the Old Army shovel. You can fold it and use it like a pic too! They really work great!!! I think Ace Hardware sells em.

A little work done today.. Thanks wood for the shovel idea.. Worked great for getting large chunks of foam out.

Seems like the more I pushed and pryed the more water came out of the foam.

Still trying to figure out how I'm going to glass in this small spot between stringers?!

I only worked for a few hours today and I officially HATE foam! Think I'm going to hold off on cutting anymore of the deck out until I get the hull supported.

I don't think the real answer would be appropriate for this forum! Let's just say it'll sound the same as how I feel about how they made this boat! :D forgot to mention I found where they poured the foam through the deck and didn't seal the holes... Just cut the foam off flush then glassed over the top. Ok ok I don't hate it. Just frustrating.. I got that whole side out in about an hour and half though.. And all the water may have came from me sweating so much! Who knows

A little progress update. I got the hull supported and the hull measured every foot at the cap joint and at deck level. Also got the rest of the deck removed up to the consoles. Just need to remove the rest of the foam and I'll be to the cap removal point to get the deck out under the bow seating. I finally broke out the circular saw today and slapped myself for not using it from the start. Took 5 mins to cut everything else out. Now for a question... Is there any problem with leaving the foam between the two stringers in and cutting the stringers out? Just think it's going to take forever to get it out of that small space unless I atleast cut one stringer out. Anyone see that being a problem other than not being able to see where I'm cutting?

Nope, just as long as you're careful with the angle and don't cut through the hull, it should'nt be a problem at all. It's all gotta come out some time. Bear in mind, as you know by now, the foam does have somewhat of an adhesive quality to it and could make getting the stringer out after it is cut a bit of an issue.

Foams got good adhesion? Ya don't say! :D But for the whole stringer being stuck to the foam deal I started using a drywall saw today to cut the foam from up against the stringers. Worked great so figure I can go that route to get the stringer loose. Thanks again wood.. I didn't see it being a problem but never hurts to ask. I've been known to have brain farts at times! Forgot to take a few pictures before I left.. It happens.

Nice work. Wet foam!! HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I wouldnt' know what that is like. What I actually used is a hammer to chip it out, use the claw end and drive it in and pull up at the same time, you get some good size chunks out that way.

See it's the simple ideas that cross my mind! Thanks for the tip... That'll work for getting the foam out of those narrow stringers enough to see where I'm cutting. Love the pic btw! Don't think I'm going to end up with quite that much. I've got two trash bags full so far and that was just half of one side. I'm going to buckle down tomorrow and get it all out up to the consoles or atleast that's the plan.

Was about to say I'll trade ya and deal with the foam and you can deal with replacing the 5 stringers in mine, but after seeing that picture... Naaah I think I got it made!

Three hours later and im pretty much at the cap removal point. Only foam left is a foot section at the stearn on both sides! I personally don't think anyones fiberglassing work can be any worse than this boat is. There are huge air bubbles in the tabbing. Oh well.. It'll be fixed. Here's a few pics.. Didn't realize how blurry the second one was until I loaded them.

Little progress...

Other than the little bit of foam between the stringers and the small amount left in the bow the foam removal is DONE! think I'm going to get enough out to see where I'm cutting on the stringers and just pull it all out together.

I don't know if you can see it here but I was wondering how the outer stringers made the curve inward toward the bow... Well it looks like they scarf jointed two pieces together to somehow get the angle. You can sorta see the black line that is the joint seperating.. Or atleast this is what I think it is.. Going to be a hard one to dublicate unless there's an easier way

Also got the rub rail removed and cap unscrewed.. Just have a few places to break the adhesive loose in the joint and she's ready to be split! Thankfully it seemed as the screws were coming out the cap itself way flexing out while the hull sides stayed where they were. Still amazes me how thin and flimsy the sides of this boat are!

I'm at a stopping point until I get the cap pulled so more updates to come!

Re: 1992 Marada 1800MVB.. stringer, transom, deck restore

I was over getting the rest of the adhesive broke loose from the cap today and got to looking at the transom some. After measuring it's 2 1/4" all the way around which is at maximum thickness but what I noticed is that they put in two 3/4" pieces of ply then built up the rest of the thickness with roven. Why would they have kept building the thickness up after they reached the lower end of the thickness tolerance? The glass layup is thicker on the inside than the hull itself. No need to make it 2 1/4" again... Just needs to be more than 2".. Preferably 2 1/8" correct? Also found where someone cut an hole in the front of the bow seating trying to get to the bow eye which is pulling loose on the bottom... Took a peek inside... Keel stringer runs through that area so to run the eye through they drilled 1" holes into the stringer.. Naaaw they wouldn't be a place for water to get in or anything! I'm starting to think new boat buyers should be given a video of the entire production process of the boat before they buy it. That way they can see what stupid shortcuts were taken! then again they'd never sell one if they did that.

Pic of the transom.. You can see where it's separating from the hull and also where the glass begins on the inside. Also why would they have notched the bottom like they did?

Well I've got a little good news.. I was tinkering with the gimbal housing over the weekend and started looking into where the slack was in the gimbal ring. Popped the trim senders off and got to wiggling stuff around. Hinge pins are loose... Wait not just loose.. Only being kept from completely backing out by the senders themselves! Got a tool on the way to tighten then but I couldn't believe it was that loose. Guess that's another example of why you should always check EVERYTHING when you buy a boat. This time last year I didn't know what a hinge pin was. But thanks to iboats and all it's knowledge... I saved myself some $$$!:D

Yea I know.. I searched 3 different lowes stores here.. Everyone of them have their socket and wrench section wiped out... Home depot has nothing ever a 3/8". Found a quicksilver pin tool on eBay new in package for $12. Believe me I was searching hard for that 1/2" before I ordered the tool... But ill have one now. Thanks for the tip though!

Transom is... Well.. Wet! Already knew this though. Top half is still pretty solid but the bottom is soaked. Im hopefully going to pull the cap this weekend. Having a get together so I'm going to try and gather up some folks and snatch it off.
