Sounds like the bunks will hold your hull but I would first take measurements of the cap on at various locations...you could put bridging across the hull to keep the shape....That might be a pain to work around.... You can just add some supports around the chine area out of 2x4's and plywood.

From looking at the pic of the boat on the trailer just brace the chines near the bow and you should be in good shape :)

Thanks rickryder.. I'll go that route unless someone comes up with a reason why it won't work. I may be overly concerned with it but I don't want to realize it's out of shape and the cap won't fit after everything is glassed in. Guess measure measure and measure again during the entire project will solve all of that. No progress pics bc I haven't had time to remove the engine so instead of progress pics here's a few of the boat from last season. I know how everyone loves pics! :D

Re: 1992 Marada 1800MVB.. stringer, transom, deck restore

I've returned.. Not with any good news sadly. I've been getting stuff unhooked, unscrewed, unplugged to the point I'm tired of the "un's" and ready for the "re's". Long way to go before that stage though. So far I've got all the interior gone. Motor is ready to come out tomorrow hopefully. Got the 20 or so gallons of gas out of the tank and pulled that nice little mess out. I'll get a picture of the tank tonight.. Thinking it'll need replacing also. Once that was out I got to poking around and guys this old girl is in faaar worse shape that I thought. The majority or the stringers are now just fiberglass shells. The deck in the places I checked were mush except the top ply which only stayed together because of the csm on top. I believe I can cut around the hull and almost lift it all out in one solid piece it's so bad! Foam was the only thing supporting it, which is soaked also. I look at that pic above and can't believe I had that boat out on the busy holiday weekend it was taken on. Oh well I guess demolition will be a piece of cake. On the bright side after seeing the stringer layout and how small everything is I realize I am going to be able to get this done cheaper than I was thinking. I'll get some pictures tomorrow if I can get around to pulling the motor.

If You don't have a GOOD way of pulling the motor, one easy good way is to Hire a Tow Truck Wrecker Service Truck. They can come and PULL it out in NO TIME for a service fee. Might be worth a call to see what they would charge you.

If Ive done my measuring right I think I can back it in the shop and use a chain hoist from the rafter. Got a piece of 2" steel tube stretched across 4 of them so it'll hold. Just going to be a tight squeeze... Only going to have a a few inches between the boat and engine once it's up to pull the boat back out. We'll see though.. I've got plenty of places I can get it out just would rather not have to tow it anywhere if I don't need to. Thank you for the suggestion.

Here's the tank. Ended up being alot smaller than I was thinking. There pieces flaking off the top almost like a clear coat of some sort.. What would it be? Buying a new tank isn't so much a concern as is trying to find one in the same dimensions. Plus everything I'm finding has the feed line on the opposite side.

Gas tank area.. Plywood support for tank is gone. Nothing but a layer of csm now.

What's left of the deck!

Some of the great stuff I found under the tank.

Got the engine ready to come out just waiting on my extra set of hands to get here.

And there she is... Went easier than I was expecting. Didn't help that it was 100 today. Ended up having a quarter inch of room to pull the boat back out! I've found where the exhaust y-pipe has had a spot welded on it... Guess I'll never know what happened there.

Tackled the transom assembly today.. Went about as smooth as one could expect. Actually had water standing in the bottom of the keyhole from the wood being so saturated. Pics are a lil blurry but it's quicker to load when it's taken with the phone.

I got hopeful when I first looked at the transom.. Seemed better than I was thinking but once I poked at it over 1/3 is rotted.. Planned on pulling it all anyway.

Thanks Jay.. I see your in the homestretch with your Ray. Know it's got to feel good with all that work you've put into her!

I'm getting ahead of myself on something.. About six of the screws that attach the smart tabs went into the transom wood. What should I do with these holes while I'm installing the new transom? I'll hate to drill back into new wood but those things help a ton so they are going back on.

I know how you feel. I really do not know how else you would do it. I have seen guys make the holes in the wood larger and then fill with Peanut butter and then screw the hardware to that. I would think that would be brittle though.

I'm one of those guys!!! But I don't recommend PB. I recommend Thickened EPOXY. It will not become brittle and Will hold screws/bolts exceptionally well. If you sand the amine blush off it and clean it well with Xylene Gelcoat will adhere.. SOMETIMES! but usually better to try to put some paint on it if you want to try to blend it in.

Well it's the back of tge transom so no worries for gel or paint. I'll cross that bridge when I get there I guess. They barely went into it anyways. Heck they may not even be into the wood at all now that I think about it. I just. Remember hitting wood when I drilled the holes. Thanks guys. My next step is figuring out a plan on hull support before I pull the cap and start yanking out the deck. How much would you say a cap on this boat would weigh roughly?

Very true wood. Epoxy is better for that.

I started tearing out the floor today just to see what strnger layout I was dealing with. I believe I found out why the old girl
had so much trouble getting on plane.

Don't know how well you can see it in this picture but there is water standing on the foam. The plywood that is left is dripping wet.

Which leads me to my next discovery. Just outside of the main stringer is a second stringer. These are around 4" apart which I'm guessing is going to be a serious pain to try and tab in down in that small space! I had to stop at the front of the gas tank are because the wood starts to get solid again and I didn't have the tools to get it out.

Now on to my next question which I've asked before. What will be the best way to support the hull to remove everything. I'm getting closer to the point where the cap needs to be off. I'm leaving the boat on the trailer which has one set of 6" wide bunks. For some reason the keel rollers do not touch the keel which I know is wrong and will be fixed. But until then I'm assuming I need to support the keel in various places. Then there's the chines... How much should I be worried about sagging once everything is out? Here's a picture from the back of the hull to show what I'm dealing with.

And also front the bow.

Your boat is supported pretty well inward on that trailer. I think spreading is a real concern with the cap off. Maybe you could add some temp supports on the outer edges of the trailer.

That's what I was considering also... Seems like it would be pretty simple with the hull sitting as close to the trailer as it does. I'll do some more sitting and pondering On that one. Going to try and pull the rest of the deck out tomorrow and start hacking at the foam. What's the easiest way of digging it out that folks have found?

Hmmm that's actually a great idea.. Thanks wood.. I was thinking about a drywall saw to get it into pieces but I might try the shovel first.
