Your arms are sore because of the size of the can of oven cleaner. Judging by the size of it sitting on the curb and compared to the hedge for reference it looks to be 7 feet tall and near 3 feet wide.

Might be the angle of the pic though :)

Nice to see a less then perfect job of prep by the guy who applied the bottom paint is paying off! That gelcoat looks GREAT, smooth as silk & less weight too. I know several people who would have given their left arm to have it go that good or 'easy'. They fought removing it for what seemed like forever. 1 was even an aluminum hull that took aircraft stripper: nasty stuff to apply, work, remove & very unpleasant to cleanup after & dispose of. I seem to remember 1 or 2 ended up having to re-gelcoat the bottom, it was so worked/thin when they finally got the hull paint off.

Looking great!

When you make your hull paint removal infomercial for Easy-Off, who's your paid spokesperson going to be? Don't let the MRS find out you know your way around a can of that stuff. It could make your honey-do list longer.............................

Have a good week

Infomercial,lol. I wish I could capitalize on this scraping,lol

The prep guy actually did a good job, once down to the gel, you can see where it was scuffed/sanded to prep for the first coat. I am having to wet sand that out. I think the gel coat on this hull is pretty thick though. Hopefully it will go smoothly as I still have a ton to do.

You can see in this pic what I am dealing with. This was on the stern test spot. It wet sanded out just fine.

Good stuff that is what I was hoping it was but I have done lot's of sanding be it cars etc and was wondering how you were able to get such a perfect defined line..if you wanted to leave that you never could :)

Thats funny. What your seeing is multiple layers of paint there. I was just doing a couple small areas on the stern as a test first. I used the oven cleaner and scraped off all the paint I could, then wet sanded. Thats what gave it the appearance that you see. The pic above was taken before wet sanding the prep scuff marks that were made for the prep of the first coat applied to the bottom.

Being that this is an ablative paint, that probably has something to do with me being able to sand it like that and get that edge.

This is the area you were seeing.

A little late now that you have done so much work but a pressure washer will usually get it down to primer really quick. It worked fine on my boat and is the standard prep in boatyards when doing bottom jobs on boats with existing bottom paint.

Yeah, most times, lol I tried a power washer on this paint, didn't touch it. But I didn't try anything on it to loosen the paint first. May try that on the underside. For now, i will just keep chipping away. Its got to end sooner or later. As long as they keep making Makers I will be alright

Got some more done on the engine cover today. Had to work in the basement because it was to cold out. But it wasn't to bad since my basement is just storage basically anyway.

I tabbed in the other two supports on the front of the inside cover. Also went ahead and tabbed in the two supports across the middle. This thing is unbelievably strong and stout now. I don't even think it needs more glass but I will be glassing everything in now to a good finish.

Thanks for stopping into my thread. And thanks for the compliments. I answered some of your questions on the other thread that you asked on. So I will skip those, lol

I don't ever want to have to deal with monkey fur again. I am hoping to just be able to enjoy the boat a little once I am done with everything. Thing is I really have enjoyed working on it. I have some more plans in the works for the Chris Craft. Stay tuned, lol

No more projects and definately don't think I will be trading for anything soon. I do know where one is for sale though. Cheap.
