Re: 1989 Cheetah 210es complete rebuild - project blood sweat & beers

Well today even though i should have been at the shop working on my friends car and my daily beater i skipped it to play around with the new supplies since this stuff scares me to mess up all this money, but started off watching more of frisco's videos and more and more reading etc.
Then finally got out there and mixed up my first batch of peanut butter, then while im waiting on that to setup in my transom to make sure it will setup ok i ran to the local liquor store to restock the fridge for this weekend to work on the boat.
Now im just waiting and thinking about trying to do my first run of glass on the backside of the transom or wait until tomorrow, but the goal is to have the transom in this weekend and done.
Also in this post while going through my photobucket i figured i would post up a picture of my trucks engine bay which is a 02 ford f250 that i put a 12v cummins into and the video is my friends car im finishing up now its a built ls1 in a 1990 nissan 240sx figured you all might enjoy something different, as we all like to toy with things cars and diesels are my thing so figured id break this thread up just a bit. enjoy!

sorry if this video shows up at a weird size but photobucket wont let me resize videos

One comment on the keyhole, I understand that it is just a rough cut but at the top inside of the keyhole you need to cut an area out for the steering control arm to get full motion, Sometimes it's easier out of the boat and on a frill press. I think it's around two inch cut at 60 degrees. This is from memory I would recommend you double ck before cutting.
Over all looks pretty good.

well the plan was to get the transom into the boat yesterday but we ended up going and picking up a new puppy since a friend wanted them gone or was going to dump them so we had to take atleast one so now todays plan is the transom, but before all that i got all the other wood pl'd to the back but the transom will be pb'd like i said hopefully today.

It looks like it is coming along nice. The keyhole relief cuts can be done after it is in the boat. Here is a word of advise. At teh bottom of teh keyhole, angle that down towards the bottom of the hull. It will keep water from standing there. I did not do that, and I should have.

thanks jay and im going to cut the reliefs in the boat so i will know exactly where they will need to be, and thanks for saying that about the keyhole because I was actually going to be asking about what angle or to cut the bottom flush so that takes care of that question, and does anybody know what drill bit size the gimble housing holes are?

Great progress! Stringer layout is almost identical to mine I'm just a slight bit ahead of you on my build. This was my first time working with fiberglass also and I assure you it's easier than you think!

You are doing a fine job, I am impressed. Like Marada said, it is not hard and definitely not rocket science to fiberglassing. I use to fiberglass 8 hrs a day but I never had to repair stuff . LoL we never ever prepped anything like wood either, I was trained that fiberglass will look after it. It wasn't the place I worked for training us wrong . It was the suppliers of the products educating us wrong on how their products should be used and what they can do. That is the biggest problem I can see on the boats built up to 2000. Now I find in my readings there are alot more questions asked by manufacturers as to what products can do. They want to put the best products out possible.I am glad I found this forum to find out from the experienced what works for them as to prep and tricks etc. Keep it up...I have to get back at mine, hunting is starting now .

Looks ]like you have been busy DJ.
Looks like you are off to a good start.
A few more layers and on to the stringers. :)
Hw does it feel to putting it back in instead of taking it out?
Keep it rolling.

Wow, you are moving fast. Although it makes perfect sense, I didn't pull the cap off of my boat for the resto. It looks a whole lot easier though. Next time I think I'll just bite the bullet and pull the cap.

Looking really good!

Re: 1989 Cheetah 210es complete rebuild - project blood sweat & beers

thanks, and for my boat i had to pull the cap as the bow section is enclosed with the cap so i couldnt get to the deck or stringers or some of the wood in the rear where the ladder attatches to etc. plus its alot easier to get in and out of it and move around i would deffinately suggest removal anytime possible

been busy lately and the colder weather has started to roll in so I've been doing other things, but the transom is officially done so now i will start getting the stringers installed in the coming weeks and hopefully be updating a little more often.
