ok so came up with a few ideas on making the hatch covers, my final approach was to cover bottoms of lids grind out for the lip of the hatch
i used coosa hollow core sandwiched 2 pieces together with 1708 between them then coated with csm on top
then i pva the hull and made peanut butter ,
filled it then layed my hatch down smearing out excess, now i have hatches that are good to go and lightweight just need to sand them down a bit so there is a loose fit in the holes and move forward. i did take some pics but i felt it was much better explaining because pics wound up too blurry.
as for pb i used the minimum mekp to keep heat down and did it at night to keep temps as low as i could to keep it from overheating.
mixed [h=3]
Diatomaceous earth "microscopic broken glass skeletons "and chopped fiberglass with de a good respirator is a must when sanding on it!.[/h] my mix was 64 oz of d e " it isn't actually 64 oz its just i used liquid measuring cups to scoop so using a 32 oz mixing cup i filled to the 32 oz line unpacked and sprinkled in after i had catalyzed the resin with 18 cc mekp it was 64 oz of unwaxed resin.
used about 16 oz of chopped fibers again not true weight measurement but using line just for measuring.
the last scoop of de i used to find a consistency i liked and stopped so might be some extra left in cup for your taste in smoothness.
