Thanks for the info. I'm hoping that by this weekend I can get a coat down. Today got more lay ups done on the stringers. Taking way longer than I expected.

Looking good. I'm a few weeks behind you. I noticed on an earlier posting you mentioned about the gas filling pipe, expansion pipe and covering them and how the PO had used duck tape? When I was demo-ing my SR180 BR, the tank is just like yours and the gas hose, expansion hose and a green earth wire cable were fed into the tank and under the floor and covered in a black plastic wide bore pipe that was fluted. Like a big flexible drain pipe. It started where the seat mounts were, then disappeared into the section of the underfloor that was foamed in, then re-appeared in the gas tank section. I kept the pipe for reference as I had to cut it down vertically to pull out the hoses. If my verbal description is clear and would like a pic, just let me know and i'll take one.

I would appreciate any pictures on this you have. The PO still maintains that they never did anything to this boat but there is no way Sea Ray would have sold something this bad. Most of the CS didn't even have resin on it to melt the stands. It's like little spiderwebs all over the place. Thanks for the info!

I thought I was on the down hill slide of this. No way could laying up glass take but a couple of days, NOT, almost a week. In and out of the boat, cut and mix just enough resin, back in and out of the boat. I just keep telling everyone, NEVER AGAIN!!!

Ahhhh, no boat work today with this rain but at least I was able to run to West Marine and Fiberlay to get some more supplies and then do a work area clean up. Hope to get a few hours in tomorrow weather dependent.

Ahhhh, yes I can't wait to be cruising on San Diego's bay this summer with my family. I've got 6 speakers already put in place (4 in the side rails and 2 in the Cuddy). Then take the occasional trip to Catalina island for the weekend doing some open water fishing along with way. I'm ready!!!! And so will you!!!! We'll have them both splashed soon.......

Thanks again for getting me these pictures. I just looked at your thread and all your hoses were running mid ship toward the seat box which is what you were explaining. Interesting because my vent hose, filling hose and fuel line were all facing aft. Again, I'm sure the PO did some funking things although, they keep claiming they didn't touch the boat. I've posted a pic of my fuel tank top which shows the hose connections. Is this what your's looks like and were they facing the front of the boat and not aft?

Thanks for your help and your demo work is looking great. A had to laugh when I saw you posted that you sliced your grinder cord because I did the same thing, the same way :facepalm:. I just got done putting it back together last night. Too funny..... Just don't slice your hull like I did

The flexible tubing that covers the hoses almost looks like bilge blower tubing TBH. Maybe that's what SR used. My gas tank fittings are the main hose connections in the middle toward the starboard side with the outlet pipe for the gas at the back of the tank on the the stern end. My tank is just sat in the garden at the moment and I need to drain the gas out of it before cleaning it up a little. Like yours the tank has some corrosion on it toward the front of the tank. It doesn't look too bad. I may well just give the whole tank a wire brush and a quick blow over with a rattle can. Where the corrosion is, I may just beef that up with some Bondo stuff before painting. I had considered swapping out the tank for a new plastic one,. Moeller do one that has the flat top, V bottom of this tank design, but at several hundred dollars, it will have to wait. When the floor goes in, I will retain the big hatch cover to expose the tank for just such a purpose.
We newbie's seem to be making all the same screw ups with cutting cords, etc. What were saying about at least i hadn't cut through the hull. Check out the pic I attached!!! I did that when using the sawzall. A lot of times you are cutting blind and wilth the best will in the world, s**t happens. So I am now the proud owner of an 8 inch saw cut in the hull!! I also have another ding in the hull to fix too. The PO showed me this ding that he said was caused by a jet ski hitting him some years ago. He stuck epoxy putty in the hole and never smoothed it down. Inside I found the FB was cracked for about 10 or so inches. I have sanded that down and I will FB both pieces of damage before the stringers go in. My only question on this, is do if fix the outside before FB'g the inside? Maybe somebody can tell me which side to start first.

Oh well a few of the guys confessed that they cut their hull a half dozen times or more which made me feel better. I was told to put PB in the hole on the inside part of the boat. Let it dry and then sand it so it's smooth with the hull. When you PB make sure you put something on the other side of cut. I used wax paper with duck take around the edges. This way I knew it would come off easy and see if all the areas were PB in. Then put several layers of 1708. You'll want to start with a small piece, then larger then the largest part. After that your guess is as good as mine. I'm waiting to ask that question once I'm done with the inside but don't worry about that until you start glassing.

Also thanks for the info on the tank. Still a little confused on how the set up was. Sounds like I had it right by facing the tank toward the stern end of the boat. I'll square it away as I go...... Thanks again. Check out the seat boxes. Not sure if you had them but rather than have the big open area I put drawers in them. Easy job.

QUESTION????

I just put together my seat boxes. I PB with fillets on the inside and laid two layers of CSM. I'm wanting to lay up the outside. Should I only do 2 layers before they are placed in the boat and then PB the seats to the deck using fillets and then do a final layer to ensure they are attached to the deck? Once that is done I'll gel coat them??????

When you do the outside go 1 layer csm and 1 6oz woven if you want a smooth gel coat on the finish. Set them like a stringer ...pb fillet tab in with csm cover with woven.

you want some csm on the boxes....the 6oz is a finishing veil. that smooths every thing out. you dont even need resin if you are laying wet on wet.....it just absorbes it

The stringers are capped and the fuel deck is laid and gel coated!!!! Next is wait for the gel coat to dry & start putting down the cleats. I also wanted to ask about the cut I did on my hull. I put 4 layers of 1708 down after I PB the hole in. I've sanded down the outside to make it a more clean cut. What do I do next?

I got another question. I'm putting in the fuel tank either today or tomorrow. I've been kicking around the idea of putting a small drain hole in the bottom of the fuel deck. The deck will be sealed however, that is what makes me nervous. I won't know there is a problem until its too late with the fuel tank but if I have a small drain hole then I'll know if there is fuel leaking or water getting in somewhere. What does everyone think?????
The fuel line, vent tube and filling hose will sit a little higher on the deck. I'm going to add another inch to the decking area so I can enclose these lines. They will be sealed with 5200 or something like that so no water gets in. The dog house covers this area so it won't be a trip hazard.
