Re: 1985 Sea Nymph 175 Fish & Ski Rebuild - Tons of pics!

Thanks for all the encouragement! I was able to get quite a bit done this weekend:

Pic of the final coat of paint - turned out great. Sorry for the dirty camera lens.

Got half of the windshield on, and the boards mounted:

Got the splashwell cleaned out, re-sealed, and sprayed with bedliner. I ended up re-fastening the transom cap and sealing up as well.

As promised, pic of my transom wood shavings:

Got the new splashwell boot grommet thing installed. I like this one because it synches with a wire tie - so if you have to add a wire just clip the tie, slip it through, and install a new tie.

Got the bow seat cut out and sprayed with bedliner:

I will share with everyone my one mistake on the paint job. I caught the runs.

2012-05-06_21-04-36_798.jpg

Oh well. I didn't check my gun settings on my first spray on the final coat - very important!

Well there is another mistake... I didn't tape off the bow well enough, and I have some overspray on the bare aluminum under the bow eye. I am hoping some mineral spirits or acetone takes care of this.

Yup, me too. Course I'm not all that great of a fisherman but I think that has little to do with sitting down:rolleyes:

haha, its all about being out there. Big difference between fishing and catching!

Your bow seating base is one solid piece of ply?

Odd... mine is 2 pieces (one on each side) so I can flip each side up to get at the stuff under the seats.

Yes. Storage access is from the sides via oval cutouts on mine.

Mine has the ovals too, but my seats/bases are 2 separate parts.

Yeah, it is a little difficult to get under there. Where exactly is the hinge on your setup? The way my frame is made, there is about 10" in the front that would not be supported. My fear is that with the split there it would make the front part too weak to stand on.

No hinge, they just sit there as a friction fit.

There is an L bracket in the bow of mine like the sides have that supports the bow-most part of the seats. (yours doesnt look like its there though)

Interesting. If I run across some decently priced hatches I may just put a couple up there instead. I want it to be fastened down, just because I do like to stand on them on occasion.

You know carp, I think this is my Favorite paint job on the forum. I'm gunna buy some of the paint and experiment with it on some of the bases of my old shop tools. I REALLY like the sheen from what your pics are showing.

Thank you Wood, with all the time I spent sanding and tweaking I am very glad it turned out the way it did. I took the aluminum scrap piece I used as a tester - and hit it with some screwdrivers, etc. to see how durable it would be. Light scratching, but the paint is certainly very hard. I think it will work out good. It would be a neat video to put together "paint abuse" haha.

I will take a pic of the other side in the same arrangement and replace the after pic to stay consistent.

I put one of these between my helm seats to get at my seating bolts, works great.

Thanks for the pics and the link!

Today will be mounting the accessories and working on wiring. If I have extra time it will be spent tearing the lower unit off of the motor. I have a water pump rebuild kit on the way. My father is nice enough to be working on rebuilding the TnT unit - new seals, etc.

Re: 1985 Sea Nymph 175 Fish & Ski Rebuild - Tons of pics!

No pics to update today, but I did make some progress:

- Installed VHF Radio
- Installed Mounts for Downriggers
- Made the main non-engine wiring harness
- Dismantled most of my engine
- Replaced the water pump assy including housing and impeller

The water pump was surprisingly in great shape considering it has had like 15+ years of seasonal use on it. It had very slight wear on the impeller, and there was some grooves on the bottom plate. I ended up replacing it all, though.

Hi CD, I've just found this thread and wanted to chime in and congratulate you on an outstanding (both in quality of workmanship and speed of progress) restoration so far. Inspirational mate! :)

Re: 1985 Sea Nymph 175 Fish & Ski Rebuild - Tons of pics!

Well.. It's been slow going for the last two weeks, other projects getting in the way. I'm sure you all can relate! I did manage to get the following done:

Tear electronics off of motor
Mount riggers and some rod holders on boat
Stretch the rub rail back into position
Make progress on the wiring
Purchased some lexan sheet to replace the cracked windshield
Applied the registration decals

As promised I also have a pic of the same angle as above for comparison on the color:
