I think it is a great set-up with the 2 Evinrude V-4 engines.----But we all know that these engines suffer from broken rings when the hrs add up.-----Compression test results should be taken for future reference.----Post the numbers here.

For sure. I wasn't able to get out and get a battery this last weekend. Hope to have time this weekend. Can these engines be saved if the rings go bad? How hard would it be to find a replacement engine if needed?

A boat like this is often owned by someone who does NOT have a fuel budget.-----Could have lots of hours on it.---Lots of hrs on Lake Erie ??-----These engines are easy to rebuild.---Parts are everywhere.-----That is my opinion.-----The issue is finding a local shop to do this if you need that help.-----I believe you can find rebuilt powerheads for these.-----Basically the same parts from early 1980 to 1998.----Should be able to find a shop in Ohio I think.

If I had to guess these engines probably have alot of hours trolling the greatlakes. Which is what I plan on doing with it. Is a rebuild something I could do? I would say I'm fairly mechanically inclined but don't have any experience rebuilding engines.

first, take a compression reading. you may not need to do anything with them other than TLC and maintenance

Easy to do in my opinion.-----But then I have done lots of them.---- And have quite a few of the V-4 that are for rebuild / parts.

No surprise there either.------But squeeze that foam and taste.-----Sorry , could not resist.------Best not to put foam back in.-----There are better alternatives in my opinion.

The foam is part of the structure and sound deadening.-----PVC pipe might be an option.-----But others may have different opinions.

Google---us composites 2 part foam----Will give you an idea on cost of foam.------Winnner boats used plastic containers ( size of loaf of bread ) under the floor for flotation.----The ideas will come from others here.

How does the pvc pipe work?
Foam is actually not structural on a tin boat. Older StarCraft actually used styrofoam sheets. Some people use pool noodles under the floor, some use blue or green insulation board. Any option had the ability to create enough flotation to keep it mostly above the surface

Do these other options help with sound deadening?

Any foam tightly packed will help with sound as it will damp any vibrations and take the sharpness/clangyness out of it.

None of them will truly deaden the sound, just change the tone. To deaden sound you need something with mass, like heavy rubber, but you also don't want extra weight on your boat. What is the source of noise that you are worried about?

A tin boat is much louder against the hull than a fiberglass boat.. you can try to deaden it but really you will always hear the splashing. It’s one of the things that signifies your riding in an old StarCraft
