Some think that you might damage electronic ignition parts with key in on position.

Very common. But it’s literally few Weeks of Working on it after your day job. Not a big job at all. I did a 14’ Holiday in one month. New deck, wiring, bilge pump, carpet and seats. I didn’t do the transom at that time as it was okay

What's the drill size for removing these pop rivets?

Why do I need the ignition off for a compression test?

Gasoline + spark = boom. Not a good idea having loose spark plug wires near the spark plug hole with them out with ignition on.

I bring it up as a safety matter because it only takes once to forgot draining the gas or forget to secure them away/ground them and bad stuff happens fast.

If you do the test with ignition on, make sure you secure the spark plug wires & plugs away from the spark plug holes.

On the new boat show room floor that appears to be in the $80,000 range.-----If you got it at the right price than lots of work can be done.-----I sure would tackle that.

For most people it would take 10 years to save $80,000 cash to buy such an item.----But it is different for everyone.

That is how I do it. 3"cup brush on 2' drill extension and the shop vac to suck up the crumbs
Any issues with the steel from the wire wheel embedding into the aluminum. I did a little welding back in the day and I remember this being an issue for certain metals they could actually rust.

I've been wire wheeling my boat during restoration mostly using what I have on hand, which is carbon steel. Most spots I clean and then coat with whatever my plan is, but some spots don't get coated for awhile. Those spots that get left have yet to show any signs of embedded steel particles. I also shop vac after everything that I clean, so loose wire bits get vaccumed up. If you're really worried, they make abrasive nylon brushes, I've been having good luck with that as well for removal of any paints and glues.

What's everyone's opinion on replacing the floor with a Coosa type product?
I did a coosa floor in my Holiday. The stuff it bulletproof, very nice product that will last forever. You can actually get them to custom make your transom if you send them a template.

solid rivets are going to be 3/16 or slightly undersized, pop rivets will be different sizes, just find the drill that removes the head without making the hole bigger.

Depending on how much rivet work you end up doing you might end up going through several bits. You can pick up multipacks of 3/16 and any other size colbalt bits on amazon for pretty cheap.

This may carry over from some of the old ignition systems found in vehicles. I remember running into this on my old CJ7.

I'm going to be considering this!! Removing this wood and foam isn't particularly hard but I don't think I want to do it again. 🤣

the main issue is the wire bits being flung about and sticking in your arm or chest. wear a sweatshirt and face shield.

Nylon cup brush is a safer bet than steel, but slightly less effective.

Those dual 90’s on back!! 😍
