Re: 1984 Baretta rebuild
hello fellow iboaters.
with the changing weather all this past week, i have managed to catch a cold...which sucks much @$$.
i shouldnt have done anything this weekend, but i did a lil bit of grinding yesterday for a couple hours.
im paying for it today. i feel like hammered dogsh!t.
however, i managed to get a very small amount done, and it IS progress...
the damn dust is everywhere. we've all read the posts about the glass dust and how it gets everywhere, but this is something you really dont understand until you actually experience it. just reading and looking at other's pictures DOES NOT do it justice.
this is between the bilge and fuel cell, and took the most of my time...about 2 hours or so.
i dont know why it was built up like it was, but looks like they had too much resin mixed with nowhere to put it, so it was just dumped in here. turned out to be about 1/2" thick, with 2" pooled up around the corners. then the spots where the ridge starts was where they stuck in blocks and resin for the stringer-to-motormount patchjob. it was thick also.
as i only did a quick job, and wasnt feeling well, there are many highspots that can be seen....and was hard to see with all the damn dust.
i dont have a good "before" picture showing the buildup after i removed the wood, but this kinda shows the buildup. it's the area in the lower right corner, and the thickness can be seen a little bit. the water can also be seen pooling in the low spots. another good reason for washing out with water at this point...with the hull level, i can see where my drainage problems are, and correct while im grinding.
this is after cleaning the thru-hull circular saw slit. the PO glassed over everything without cleaning...found carpet glue, trash, and a leaf UNDER the glass.
still have a lil cleaning to do on this part before patching. considering patching this before cleaning the rest...havent decided yet.
that's all i have for now.
until next time...
